i'd suggest before buying it to find somebody who would be willing to hone it and get the price quote for this. i know if i would be honing for money it'll cost you a lot for me to work on it and i'd still like to be paid even if the steel turns out to be rotten and won't shave.

until you can hone yourself and can afford to waste the time on a razor it is a really bad gambling to purchase unrestored and unhoned razors.
+1... However you could have fun learning to hone it

i've honed a razor like that before the trick is to use a diamond hone up in till you reach the very edge then switch over to your regular hone progression

    Thats a nice blade!

I agree that the scales are not original. I had one similar that was scaled in bone with a lead spacer which was a great little shaver.

It will be tough to hone I imagine. Wedges are just generally, because you have to remove that much more steel to get the edge right, but she'll be a great shaver when she's done.

Thanks all for the comments and feedback. Its tough, I will some day start the learning to hone business but I don't think this will be the one I learn on.

The antique store that has it doesn't really have a clue about razors and their sticker prices I don't think fall in line (even close) to what I am willing to pay.

With that said everyone, I'm sure, likes to bargain a little and with a wink and a nudge, who knows what may happen.
