I have 2 SR w/Glen(GSSixGuns) now. He really seems like a great guy; timely replies, concise, no foolin' around, competant and has candor. I would send him a pic via his email, as he doesn't do the PMs here. I'm waiting on the verdict of a SR Droescher "Karbono". The SR Droescher 18k, was just polishing the blade & scales w/out removing the blade from the scales and honing was very affordable ($35). Let's think of it as a way to re-experience this razor in a new way. One thing I noticed about a smiling razor is that it can delve a little deeper into hollows without irritating the higher points of a concave surface. Personally, heels for the hollows of my adam's apple, toes for the skin above my jaw. YFMV, of course, but a smiling toe can provide a different though satisfying shave. It's a beautiful razor.

I bought an AK-SAR-BEN, made in Germany by same folks that made Gotta, Grah & Plumacher, that looked like this at the beginning...




Had quite a notch chipped out of the front. So I cut the tip of the razor off, and made it into a round point, which I LIKE round points better anyway, and it turned out like this:


BTW, it shaves REALLY great!

Then I got in a nice razor, Solingent Germany that had been waaay overhoned on the toe (front) and I was not impressed with that much smile for honing. It was a "Broadway Special" , made by Empire Cutlery Works, Solingen Germay and looked like this in the beginning...



I used wet leather glove and slowly cut the end off and round it off a bit, re-honed it up though 12K and man is it a shaver!! No kidding! I even cut the end off the scales since it looked kind of funny with such a long handle and shorter blade. I really like this shorter blade as it reminds me of some of the "Midget" models I have seen on forums and is very handy for holding and shaving.





So, my opinion, I don't think your razor is beyond salvation. It can shave again.

i dont like round tips ... so i wanna keep the tip as is just smile out the bottom some, and keep the heel as is

sharptonn took on the challenge, and did an AMAZING job

i dont have pics where i am, but jesus.. BEAUTIFUL .. he took the time to sand another ivory scale he had to match to replace the cracked one.. he then unpinned it, and polished the blade and set a new bevel after reworking the chipped area into a smile, leaving the rest of the blade alone.. its SOOOO beautiful now, and the hinge is nice and tight, perfection..

seriously.. PERFECTION

shaved with it for the first time this morning.. shaves as good if not better..

im back in love, and have sharptonn to thank.. thank you my friend
