Thread: Filarmonica Sub Cero No 14 in need of dental work :(

I have been agonizing over what to do with this razor.
It has a nasty chip on the blade edge 1/3 from the front and some minor staining.
The photos make the staining look worse than it does in person.
The edge has no hone wear. This razor is otherwise great shape ie scales in great condition, blade centers well, eching clearly visible, branding on the tang is distinct etc.
I hate the idea of losing 1/8 of the blade to made it useable but I don´t see any other option.
Your recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you're going to have to lose that 1/8. I really don't see any way around it. if it was at the tip, I could see rounding the tip, but with it in the middle like that...

The one law that governs razor restoration is that we haven't "Stolen Fire from the Razor Gods" yet, we can only remove metal we can't add it back

It will still turn out to be a nice 7/8 Filarmonica which is still a decent size blade. Just be careful as it's very thin and the last thing you wanna do is make the chip worse or add a crack.

Take off the 1/8 inch, lightly buff the back side, hone and use the razor in good health.

There really are no options. Hone out the chip. On the bright side, It is a Fily 14, a nice wide blade, so the loss in width should be negligible.
