Thanked: 68If he's a SRP member (and I kind of hope not) then send him a link to the thread.
In fact... send the link anyway, he doesn't need to be a member to read it.
I too am voting for a ding (or dremel induced injury) certainly not falling apart during shaving.
There's a beer brand here using "Yeah Right" as their advertising catch phrase. This would fit the bill perfectly.
Don't do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics!

Now, Im just a nubee but wouldn't it have been sufficient enough to wipe the blade down with alcohol or to soak it in barbicide? Why choose to boil it and if thats what the buyer did who's to say it didn't chip rolling around in a metal pot as it boiled? I saw a blade turn color like that once when one of my cooks left a chefs knife on an open flame. I soon fired him for other dumb A$$ things he did.
To bad you cant fire a client or customer. Sorry your dealing with this Neil.

I'm sure the blade didn't have all those opposing scratches on it prior to being sold (if it was NOS) - they are indisputable evidence of misuse to me. That, coupled with the fact the guy wouldn't accept your offer to buff and rehone after the boiling, proves that he buggered it up himself and can't admit it. Hell, he might have chipped it intentionally to try and build a case against you! (can you tell my faith in humanity is compromised? Lol)
That said - no refund!

My job is selling violins. Last Saturday a boy came to me saying that his violin he bought in September was not able to keep in tune. One of its pegs was consumed like on the violins I find that were built in the 30s'... It looks like we have similar problems!
I just told his father to watch on the son's activities. He admitted the boy doesn't love his nice violin so much... I guess your customer doesn't have a father for you to advice... You have all my comprehension!

Thanked: 1936You are a true gentleman Neil. I understand your just wanting to wash your hands of the situation. Only he knows the truth about the razor, all we can do is speculate. You will leave the transaction with a clear conscience knowing that you did all you could...above and beyond. I salute you.

Do any of you guys actually boil your razors? Even if it doesn't affect the blade...I'm sure it is hard on the scales. Where did he get that idea? Based upon his actions, I would not refund anything. If this guy did any type of research, he would know that razors aren't like pocket knives. He may have tried to use it like a knife which resulted in the chipping as well.

Thanked: 1936Just a dip in 91% isoprophyl alcohol for me, no way I would boil a razor.

Thanked: 3164To be perfectly fair, the owner said that the razor was left standing in 'boiled' water - it was a busy day apparently, so it was left in the water until there was a chance to dry it off - thats when it was found to be tarnished. I don't feel easy concluding that 'boiled' meant 'boiling' and would rather see it as just being hot. That story has since changed though to being left in the water for just '10 minutes' - but I have seen light rust form in a matter of just minutes, although it just polished away as if never there. It certainly didn't leave marks and pitting.
Regards,
Neil
