I don't mean to be rude, but on what basis do you say it looks good to you? If you think it looks good you should have a reason and I would love to know what that reason is?

Grind looks good, scales fit right, pins are proper. Particularly if it took an edge, there is no reason to suspect this razor is anything less than a razor... looks like dozens of other 20th century razors.

Have you ever bought a "Gold Dollar" Razor? They look amazing. They also take an edge, but they too sound like crap on the hone/strop.

Gold Dollars look pretty crappy... bad scales, bad pins, and most telling is the obviously bad grind. If you think a Gold Dollar looks amazing... details may not be your strong suit!

Have you had a gold dollar? The goldwash looked good, the pins were as good as any I have seen (I buy and sell razors), the scales were the same as a set that came on a crown and sword (aside from the gold dollar writing and prob the material but you cant tell this from looking).

I have 2 sitting in front of me right now. They can take an o.k. shaving edge once you fix the problems, as long as it is just not plain buggered.

Goldwash, pins, scales, grind make it very obvious that it is a $5 razor though.

I do not sell razors to often, but I have bought quite a few to compare too.....

Edit: Apologies to the OP for replying to an off topic and making your thread even more off topic.

I have had a number of gold dollars come across my honing station that I received from others, I haven't bothered to buy one yet.

@ OP: From your picture the razor looks fine. Get it properly honed and have a shave, then decide what to do with it.

So in your opinion a GD is "a poor razor" and "take an edge".

    Is that a multiple choice?

If you know how to hone, you can shave with a butter knife. It WILL take an edge, but it is not a good edge. GD is a very poor razor, I bought one to see what all the fuss was about, and I pretty much have the same opinion. It will shave, just not very well.
