Default Its a crying shame....was going to be a very nice Dubl Duck Dwarf

So I got this really cheap on ebay and although it wasn't in the best condition it seemed worth restoring. I bought this nice Mother Of Pearl Celluloid used to restore old Les Paul guitars and made some nice looking scales. Well after a lot of sanding and polishing i had it all done and ready to hone, but I accidentally put a little scratch in in when I set one of my files down in the wrong spot. So here I was thinking it would take 2 seconds on with the buffing wheel and it would be good as new. I could not have been more wrong, the edge of the blade bought just a little bit and I thought it was ok but it turned out that it cracked the blade in two spots. Now they are both small cracks but I tried to hone it and I don't think I will ever get and even edge on it and I am scared to keep trying to hone it. Any suggestions?

Those scales are gorgeous...find another blade to mate 'em with!

Thanks, but there in lies my problem, I have not seen a lot of blades that are this short, this is a 2.5" blade.

Looks to me like if you cut it back past that crack, it's gonna be 3/8 and you'd have to thin the spine and regrind the heel to get a decent bevel.

Hate to say it but I'd think that one is a goner.

You've got a neat set of scales and some good experience for the next one though.

Yeah that is what I figured and the crack goes up almost half way. Does anyone have a old Dwarf they are willing to part with for cheap or want scales for theirs?

A Boker 'Baby' has a cutting edge that is 2 5\16 and is 3 3\4 from pin hole to the toe. Would be a shame not to use those scales. Good Luck, John

whatever you do, keep us posted...I would love to see the finished product if you decide to hone it out and make it a smaller blade...the scales are gorgeous

Sorry to hear about your misfortune woth your Dwarf but I have to make a note here:

Moderator note: Please keep all talk of sales or trades off the main forum. There is a WTB forum in the classifieds forum for that purpose or us PM's. Thanks.

I have a few leads on a replacement, and I will keep it updated as I make progress.

Joed, I will do that and I apologize I will keep all talk of purchasing out of this forum.
