Just wanted to say thanks for this great info! I just got a La Grelot 42 for 30$, just wondering more about it. Hoping it was a good deal, I recognized the name "Thiers" but not the rest of the inscription.

Mine however is less than a 1/4 hollow, more like a wedge! Anyone with ideas about that? Whether it's a sign of lesser make? or age?
If it is in good condition it was a steal. Not sure about age relative to grind. Speculating that they may have made heavier grinds because there was a market for it even in the latter days. If you could post pics of the overall razor and of the tang stamp and/or any blade etchings some of our historians may be able to pin it down for you. Besides, we love razor porn.

Okay , here's your eye candy, pun intended as you'll see in a minute. I'm in a festive mood... Looks like a near wedge to me. And no writing on back side. This razor was in it's case since birth, except when on display. Never used and still had factory edge!! Name: DSCF1909.jpg
