I've been going back and forth about getting a DX Teak or the SS. I love my straights, I'm partial to the bigger blades 6/8-8/8's.
How do these compare and which blade would you recommend?
I found on a site where they were comparing the different Professional blades to traditional straight sizes, always wondered how accurate those descriptions translated?

I don't have a Feather, to much money for a bloke like me, once a month checks and all. But I do own a Dovo Shevette and it does rock, when I don't feel like stroping because of time constraints, I can put a Feather DE blade in and I"M good to go for a some what quicker BBS shave.
Though I does think the Freather's are sure 'Perdy!

I have a Feather Artist folding razor and really like it. I use it on a regular bases in my rotation. Been curious about the non folding and read about a Korean clone, CJB Blade Handle, that uses the feather blades but is only a fraction of the cost. I've sent for one and should have it soon. Will let you all know when I've tried it out. (Hopeful)

The SS is now also available with teakwood handles. I shave with straights also and all of my razors are 7/8" or above. But as much as I love my straights my Feather/Kai razors give my fantastic shaves also.
The DX has more weight to it and feels better in my hands, the SS (with plastic handles) is lighter and has a complete different feel (IMO) that I don't care for so much.
IMO you can't compare the different Professional blades to straight sizes. Both the professional and super professional blades are good (I prefer the Supers in my Feather/Kai razors and use the professionals almost exclusively in my Cobra Classic razor). Another very good blade is the KAI Mild.

Thanked: 1I have both the AC RG and the AC SS and think they are great shavers. I got them as travel razors and liked them so much that I use them in my daily rotation.

Just ordered a non folding SS from Italian Barber. I hope the SS will lead me back into straight shaving. I cut myself several times in a row and switched to DE's for quite a while. Got a set of Pro Guard and a Set of Professional blades.

This morning I shaved with the new Feather Artist Club SS (Japanese style, non-folding) razor for the first time. Here is my summary.
1. The overall weight is lighter and the size smaller than a traditional 5/8" razor. But this in no way compromised my shave. In fact, I appreciated the compactness - able to reach certain spots without changing hands as often.
2. As expected, the blade was exceptionally sharp but not at all harsh to me. A lighter touch is mandatory. I got a few tiny nicks in the usual places but otherwise was very comfortable with the shave. You do need to respect these blades and they will reward you.
3. I recommend the Super Professional blades for the real straight razor experience. This blade sticks out farther and provides a wider range of possible angles than the other blades. I also have a very thick, dense beard and this is the recommended blade for me.
4. The fixed Japanese shape is different. I rather appreciated it by the third pass, which by the way was probably not necessary. The second XTG was BBS. The small size worked nicely under the nose, better than any straight I have ever used. It will take some getting used too because I mostly rotate 6/8" or larger extra hollow ground blades.
I highly recommend the new Feather AC SS Japanese-style razor. In fact, I still think for $95 the folding model is what most newbies should start with before investing in traditional straights.
This little wonder is going into my weekly rotation. Now to see how many shaves I can get out of one blade!

Gamma, I have the RG folding and use the Super's...I find I can get 5 shaves out it before needing to replace.
I'd say I have a tough beard as well.
Enjoy!
I second the idea of beginners trying this first, closest thing to a traditional straight.

I get around 15 shaves out of a blade. When I started using them I also got about 5 - 6 shaves. By using the feather razors more often that improved a lot. Normally I change after 7 to 8 days because I shave my face and head every day with the same blade.
