Thanked: 0I am new to straightrazor shaving and bought the new 2012 Feather Professional SS (replacement for the discontinued AC RG) and really love it. I opted for it because I didnt want to spend the time and money to strop and hone yet. I compared all the no sharpen options and there is no comparision of the feathers to a dovo shavette. I may buy a dovo special or something later on but its tough to justify it because the feather works so well.

The Feather SS is a wise first step for any first time straight razor newcomer. More first time users should elect this option before getting into the full hobby. Well done.

You may be right about the endurance of this blade. I have 5 shaves with three passes on most, and cannot detect any degradation. In fact, I find the edge a bit tamer after being used a bit. Perhaps I too can get better than a week out of one blade. That is not bad for $1.00.

Thanked: 2I did shave # 10 this mornig with my professional (8 face, 2 head) still going strong. I do have a pretty thick beard so if it gets me through Thursday morning, I'll be happy. It is getting a little not as sharp- I dont want to say dull because it isnt, just not as sharp as the first shave. I have found that the first shave with a new blade you have to be very careful because they are ridiculously sharp. I got this after 2 straights, and a shavette. I dont know if I want to go back to straights since I am kinda lazy that way.

I use the Super Pro blades in my Feather and get really good results with them for many shaves. I'm a little embarrassed to say that I have no idea how many shaves I can get from a blade, but it's quite a few....maybe 20-30?
I have never counted because I don't use the razor consistantly and I would have to keep a log.....not likely to happen.
