Thread: The insane price of Filarmonicas

There's a current auction for three razors: a Dubl Duck, a Filarmonica, and a Joseph Rogers. Replace that Rogers with a WB and would we have the unholy trinity of occasioanlly over-priced razors?
I've blown my RAD budget a couple times over recently and so won't be touching that one with a ten-foot pole, but it will be interesting to see how high it goes.

I really have no interest in a filly or duck, as my philosophy is the best razor is the one in your hand. Custom razors on the other hand makes my blood rush to strange areas.

Thanked: 6I've seen all the hype about Filly's but what is it about them that makes them a premium razor as compared to a Dovo, TI, Wacker, Etc? Were they kissed by angels or blessed by the Pope or something? I'd like to try one but not for their trending prices unless it will butter my toast in the morning.

I think it's the fact that most have nice fat blades and all look clean and unpitted. That is about it, the Spanish blade is not the cream of the crop (that award goes to the Gold Dollar).

"Hype" exists when you don't want to pay the price.
"Value" exists when you do.
Markets determine value, not hype, and there is nothing "insane" about Filly prices.
Whether one wants to pay the price is another matter.

Thanked: 109Well I was curious about the Filly as well. After obtaining one it is quite apparent why they are in demand. They hone up very easily. They are sharp as razors go and they hold their edge nicely. They are smooth shavers and for me WTG they are possibly the smoothest IMLE. They look like lots of people think a straight razor should look. They are going up in price so everyone wants to hit the jackpot.
All that being said my Filly doesn't do anything other razors I have used can't do just as well. Mine is presently being disposed of as the prices they are selling for is simply too rich to ignore.
