Thanked: 1195I usually agree with your posts Ace, but I do disagree with the above. When a particular razor's price doubles or triples overnight it's not invisible market forces, but people stoking the market. This can be done various ways, but the most effective method is hype (combined with ignorance). Would I pay $500 for something that was $100 only a year or two ago? Certainly not, and I'm sure the people paying those prices wouldn't if they knew that too.

Thanked: 1195Okay, probably closer to two years ago or so, as far as Fillys are concerned.
But it really wasn't that long ago that W&B's were considered very average and abundant in supply and could be had for less than $100 on a bad day. My first SR, a Dubl Duck in good condition, was bought for less than $100....

Thanked: 2027In todays world, some of us lose contact with todays prices,The newbs get killed on this stuff, not because it is overpriced.
It is by our standards because we bought this stuff for cheap, back in the day (by todays standards)100 bux ten yrs ago was alot of money for any straight,40 yrs ago, gold was $32 an ounce, gas was 50 cents /gal,in the late 60s you could buy a 86 winchester for 80 bux,in the mid 70s you could buy a 65 split window vette for 5K.
Someday, 1500 for a mint 14 filly will arive, and they will sell,I have mine, they are not for sale at any price.
In 20 yrs I will be 84,sittin in front of my puter watching ebay, and that filly that just sold for $7600.00 and say, these people are nutz,we used to get them for a hun

Don't be ridiculous! Everyone knows they are tempered in the tears of angels, except the Sub-Cero, which is tempered in the sweat of vestal virgins.
And if you want to butter your toast with a razor, well, suit yourself, but I think your strop will smell funny afterwards.

Thanked: 1263This is how I feel about my EPBD every time I use it. Are they any better than any other quality razor? Nope. But they can be a breeze to hone and give a shave second to none. It's always tempting to sell mine when I see the prices, but at the same time I'd never give it up

Great Thread!
Personally I won't ever sell the Fillis that I have. They never fail to put a smile on my face whenever they come out of the drawer

Collecting Filarmonica razors is today such an expensive hobby! It was not like that four or five years ago.
Filarmonicas are great shavers (for no reason in the world I would sell the ones I have!) but the raise of price has no evident reason but speculation. Great razors, anyway!

Honestly think it's gone beyond speculation (for the time being anyway). It's down to hype, ie if they're going for that much then they must be worth even more. Eye of the beholder whichever way you look at it.
