Are you talking about Iwasaki razors, or kamisori in general? I'm talking about kamisori...not the brand name, the grinding style. Forgive me if I mis-capitalized a K. The one pictured in my post, when viewed head-on, has that distinctive uneven wedge shape. I've handled & restored a lot of early Sheffield wedges--probably not as many as a lot of you guys, but enough to know when I'm holding something old & finely crafted. My best guess on these is that they were tonsorial razors...used for the head more than the beard. The "Standard Guide to Straight Razors" (as the OP noted) puts them as Chinese from 1700 or earlier. Considering the kamisori method of grinding steel goes back almost 1000 years, that would make sense, and would account for the apparently never-ending supply of them at discount relic-marts.
