I have a Hart in my rotation, and always look forward to using it. I find the heavier Hart moves and shaves with less effort than any other razor I use. I do not have big hands, but they are thick. Other razors seem to get lost in my hands while the Hart is always dominate. I really enjoy the Hart.

Really the VIP opinion is your own but you won't get that till you buy one or the other or both.

Get both. I've got both of them and they are excellent shavers. They are very different though. The Hart is quite a stiff grind whereas the Dovo is quite a hollow grind.

Thanked: 88I admired both. I bought the Hart. They are very differenet razors though. Asthetically, do you like both styles, or do you lean toward the refined look of the Dovo or the utilitarian look of the Hart? Do you prefer a hollow, shoulderless design or a stiff 1/4 hollow blade? Do you want a 5/8, 6/8, or 7/8 (the Dovo runs 5/8+ only, as I understand it, but the Hart is offer in 6/8 and 7/8)?

I have both razors too and I'd take the Dovo over the Hart in a heartbeat. The Dovo is perfectly balanced and is almost an extension of your hand. The Hart is heavy and to me unbalanced and kind of clunky. We won't even begin to talk about the cosmetic aspects of the two. Of course in the end they both shave great though my Bergeisher is one of those really exceptional shavers and outperforms the Hart. Of course if your one of those who like big heavy razors you might prefer the feel of the Hart.

It will be interesting to see what you decide. If you stay with straight razor shaving I will bet you will try both Hart and the Dovo BL. To me they are as about as far apart in their respective features as a Ford F250 4WD
and Chevy volt. They will both get you where you are going.
Personally I like both of the razors. Bruce Gregory with Hart is getting better and better with each blade he makes.Bob

Thanked: 12I had both and would buy a Hart Steel again.
They are rather plain and utilitarian and a heavier grind but out of the box gave the smoothest most effortless shave other than a 1/4 Grind le grelot.
The Dovo BL is Dovo's nicest blade and the scales are nice, but I found the scales weren't centred on my example, the rubber thing on the tang is useless and annoying, and I have gone off gold wash on razors as it tends to fade.

Thanked: 247I recently bought a Hart and will probably buy another.
I don't have a Dovo, but I hear they are nice. From what I have seen they have a very different blade profile than the Hart. It would seem that your preference in grinds ought to shove you pretty hard in one direction or the other.
I'm a noob, but it seems like an apples to watermelons comparison between the two.

I think The Dovo BL is by far better razor. The workmanship alone on it is superior to the one on Hart, and it is extra hollow ground which is much much harder to do than a 1/8-1/4 hollow. Then there are the embellishments - worked spine, blade finish, horn scales, each of those cost extra compared to plain - you can see the cost differences even in the Hart product line. In fact the BL is aesthetically a little bit over the top for my taste.
Shaving wise I prefer the BL as it is a little bit smoother (not all that big of a difference at that level), but also because I prefer extra hollows (I like wedges too, but I have many vintage wedges that I'd reach for before I reach for the Hart, even if I have to go to the other room to get them).
