Thanked: 3228Personally, I don't think DDs were ever assembled in the USA because it is so much easier for a strictly import company to deal with fully assembled products for distribution. Absolutely no proof for that POV unfortunately. I also think that the small differences in the DDs were the result of what was on hand and in style at the moment any particular order was filled by the manufacturer. Let alone that there is a possibility that over time various manufacturers won contracts to supply DDs to the importer. I don't think I have ever seen it stated anywhere with any authority who exactly did manufacture DDs for the importer.
