Thanked: 3226That is the real deal, it may be a souvenir but it also is a proper shaver. "Acier" is french for steel so I believe it is carbon steel not stainless or it would have been marked as Martin says with "Stainless" or "Inox". Germans are very particular that things are properly labeled. I am also going to guess that Aachen was in the French Zone of Occupation after WWII so the use of a French word in the stamping would be quite natural for that period. Bohler steel is inferior to nothing and equal to the best produced in other areas. Not a thing wrong with that blade I am afraid.

Thanked: 3226OK, so I eat those words. Yea, they certainly don't in a lot of cases. Could it be that those razors were built to export for importers like Bresduck/Pearlduck and were not required by German law to be stamped with the manufacturers name or trade mark. OTH I did see a DD stainless blade that is marked as such in the classifieds here and also place of manufacture. Different regulations depending on where the intended market was? If that is/was the case then strictly speaking they were correctly marked. Besides if all were marked with who made them a lot of fun would go out of trying to surmise who the manufacturer actually was on forum like this. I kinda like having fun.

Thanked: 116Thanks for all the input guys. My hopes if it being stainless have been crushed. With that said I am excited to get this 7/8 in my hands! As far as Germans being particular about markings, for the most part I'd have to agree. There are obviously exceptions to the rule like my 7/8 friodur blank that was produced after production stopped from old stock. There are absolutely no original markings on the blade but the information provided was enough to believe the story. That and the shave is spectacular.
Any of you guys have any of these 'souvenir' razors lying around? Maybe I'll start a 'souvenir' thread to see who chimes in and with what. I'd love to see a full 7 day set!

Thanked: 3226I wish you hadn't posted those links to the 7 day sets. I think that is eventually gonna cost me some dough.
