    Perhaps they are the same person, Martin! Charles Clarenbach = Charles Clarenback.

    Whether by design or accident, I don't know - possibly by design to further anglicize the name. In the 1860 directory he is Charles Clarenbach, in the 1861 directory he is both Clarenbach and Charles Clarenback. Unless of course there were two cutlers, of the same name bar the last letter, working at the same address in the same city and the same town and both german immigrants. Seems a bit unlikely, but stranger things have happened!
