Looking for some advice on sleeving this razor
I have gone through the tutorials and tried to answer my question without posting a thread, but I think I may have hit a wall at this point.
I plan on sleeving this razor and I don't know what size tube I should use. The 1/16th fits in what I believe is a 3/32 (the package was an assortment without sizes listed) and they both fit into the razor's pin hole.
When I push it through all the way, you can see that there is still some space on both sides.
The next size up doesn't quite fit the hole and I would need to do a little bit of filing to get it to fit. I have never done this before so I'm about as green as a banana. I have also looked into thrust washers but I don't know the exact size I would need. Since it is going to be a sleeved pivot, would one of these #0 washers suffice? Thanks for any and all advice, and I apologize if this is posted in the wrong area.

Thanked: 3227Another way to go is to fill the hole with something like Devcon two part metal epoxy and then drill the appropriate sized hole.

Jonah you are fine using the piece in your picture. That little bit of extra space is a non issue. Also keep in mind that the sleeve should be loose in the pivot hole. They do not need to be oversized, or used a bit longer than the pivot hole and then peened in. A sleeve cut flush or a touch less than the pivot hole depth works perfectly. I got these tips from Glen some time ago. In fact I pinned an elongated pivot hole on an Adoration DeLux yesterday. Enjoy.

Do as lz6 suggests, just use the 3/32 tube and the 1/16 pin. When you peen the pin it will tighten things up and it becomes a non issue. Works quite well.

Thanks for the advice gents. I don't have a single power tool so I am trying to do it cave man style. As far as the washer goes, will one of the #0 washers suffice, or do I need to hunt down some thrust washers for the inside of the scale? One more question I have is do I need to use any oil for the sandwiching of the 1/16th and 3/32 rods?

You will need a #0 wide washer for the thrust washer, and if the tang has an uneven grind on one side don't fret about using two on that side, you will want the razor centered as best as you can before you start peening, it will save you a huge headache later.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Copy that. The tang is a bit uneven. On the show side, I can feel the whole tang lean back when I push on the pivot hole. On the back side, it is pretty flat and hardly move when I do the same.
You can see in the first picture that the toe lifts up at more of an angle.

Thanked: 2591Were you not able to pin the razor as is?
When I sleeve I first drill the pin hole straight then use the correct size tubing depending on the hole size, sometimes I even fit two sizes tubing to make tight fit for a 1/16" rod, but that is very very rare occurrence.Stefan

I don't have scales fashioned yet, so as of now I have the blade hanging out. From everything I have read as well as the advice many forum members have given me, sleeving it seems to be the best option.
