Thread: Razors you don't like?

There is something about Harts razors that I just don't like that they are too generic and I do not like razors that are too loud like some of livi's abalone scales razors that seem to belong to a sadistic pimp. Faux ivory with our without engravings along with the infamous cell rot. I am not a fan of frameback razor although some faux frameback razors do look the part. I do not like round tips partly because of appearance and because they are not very good at detailing moustaches and sideburns. I do like larger razors and some small details adorning the razor are nice for example
The hump on ator razor, the utility of both French and Spanish points, discrete spine work is fine but it seems that some custom makers want to bundle all that goodness at one and that is not right. Loud custom jobs remind me of the Simpson's episode when they go to Brazil and homer buys a juice made with all the sweets fruits of Brazil.

Thanked: 1371As mentioned in another thread:
Decorative features just for the sake of decorative features. I like them when decorative features work with the whole razor & scales to make a piece of art. The ones that bother me are the ones where a guy does some kind of crazy grind but it doesn't match the scales or there are curves and sharp angles that don't go together.
I don't like razors with thick chunky scales, or scales that don't match the blade as far as the shape / profile is concerned.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

All of the cheap junk from China, holes in blades, Kamisoris, the new Hen & Rooster JUNK from Spain, razors with tacky modern decorations ment to lure in young buyers because they think it looks "cool", razors to be sold as decorations with absolutly no intent to ever be used.

Hmmmm, not sure about that, kronenburg and Stella artois are considered by some good, but leave me with the most awfull chemical headache (no it isn't a hangover), tennants super strength is not good, to drink it you have 2 options 1- really cold so you can't taste it, 2- warm so you can down it quickly, either way its bad. For perspective I buy emu export which some would shun but it tastes of bee( you know how some beer doesn't really have a flavour, I find that Mexican one like that if it doesn't have lemon in it) is full strength, inexpensive and that's about it. Not that I don't like boutique beer, but some craft/ boutique beers are just bad.
Badger brewery in the uk does a golden glory I think it is callled - that's a god summer beer.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

There's more I like than I don't like. But that being said I'm not a fan of anything smaller than 6/8. 5/8 is acceptable but not my preference. Also, round tips are ok but again not my first choice as I can get closer to the facial hair that I have with a square tip. And while there have been scales I've disliked I'm not overly passionate about it. I have one faux frame back and not overly interested in another but that's not to say I dislike it, just not my preference. I have heavy wedges and extra hollows. I have bone, horn, acrylic, wood, and celluloid scales. I like them all. Blade size and tip are my most important aspects for me.

Thanked: 1195My vote would be custom razors with sharp spiky spines that owe nothing towards functionality and instead appeal only to aesthetics. Might look good on a fireplace mantle or on a bathroom shelf (to impress company in your home, no doubt), but totally impractical when applied to your prized strop.

Thanked: 1185The razors I hate the most are the really cool ones that I can't afford. I'm not a big fan of full wedge blades and I really don't like the huge cartoon type Sweeny Todd kind of novelty razors. Or the Chinese or Pakistani crap that people at the flea market try to tell me are equal in quality to Swedish, German or English steel. Right and Roseann Barr is as hot as Selma Hayek
The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 9I really hate gold wash. These are supposed to be tools for men (though a quick nod to the ladies here...rock on). Plain steel is all I want to see on a razor.
