2 sub-par shaves: TI wedge guilty as charged

    Shave 1:
    5+ days' beard
    Plisson HMW 12 horn
    Acqua Di Parma cream
    DD 70 Broke-in Russia
vintage 5/8 TI wedge a/r honing + Chromium
    Trumper's alum
    Trumper's CSF

    Shave 2:
    24 hrs' stubble
    Custom Super Silvertip ivory handle
    Lucky Tiger shave lotion
    Tony Miller 3" strop
same vintage TI wedge a/r Y/G Escher, no Chromium
    Trumper's alum
    Trumper's CSF

Both shaves were not too close and the razor pulled Nevertheless, no cuts and extremely little irritation in a couple of spots, which disappeared within 30 or less min. Razor did shave ATG, just not very well.

    Cheers
    Ivo

    Wed:

    Dovo travel brush
    Trumper's Violet cream
    5/8 Puma #39
    Czech & Speake #88

'twas a dark and stormy night, and a dark and stormy morning, so I am in a particularly Victorian mood right now. Unfortunately the shave was merely so-so; I never do get great shaves from creams...

A so-so shave is probably better than a "dark and stormy" shave, Michael?

I remember you don't like the creams too much and was surprised to see the Violet's appearance. What is your issue with creams? - I mean, not slick enough, no cushion, etc?

I think I like (some) soaps' performance better than that of any creams I have, but I like the variety and scents of my creams and seem to use them as much as soaps...

    Cheers

I get great lather, I just get mediocre shaves. I never have gotten a good shave when I've used a cream - I think I prefer more slip and less cushion, and that's easier to do with a soap. I only picked these two tubes up (Violet and Limes) because they were the much-beloved old formulation. I love the smell of the Violet though, so I think I'm gonna pick up some of their violet soap.

Default Wednesday Broke in the Takeda

    Prep:
Gave in 10 Passes on the .25 Diamond wool felt Bench
Then went with HMA Big Dog Bridal and Split Horse Strop felt the Top Horse one might be a Little to smooth
Went with 15 on the Split Horse and 30 on the Bridal
Soaked the Simpson Super T3 in the Scuttle
    Shower
    T&H Pre-Shave
    AOS Sandalwood Cream
    Maestro Livi 7/8 Takeda
    3 1/2 Passes
    WWR
    CWS
    QED Alum
    Pinaud Clubman AS Lotion
    Pinaud Clubman Hair Tonic
    Finished with Floris Veviter

Plain and Simple that is one Great Shaver sharp as all get out the whiskers ran and jumped before the blade got there. Great Balance and something about the look of that dark Grey metal in the mirror. Highest Recommendation on this one.

When you get the Violet soap, try a soap / cream mix, see if that improves the shave. Usually works well for me, I haven't splurged on the Trumpers soap yet though.
