But I still don't know what a snurdle is, surely they don't make a tool for getting shaving cream out instead of just dipping a brush into it?

A snurdle is exactly that, a gentleman's tool for extracting just enough cream for a shave.

Shirley they do but it is a DIY project. look at photo in post #14 in the link. You can also use a popsicle stick too. The tool is called a snurdler to get just the right amount of cream out which is called a snurdle of cream.
