Hmm.. Sadly I must plead ignorance on this one. I am not quite sure what that means. And the only clues I could find online implies derogatory connotations. From what I know of you on this forum I of course automatically know that has nothing to do with what you said.

But what exactly did you mean?

    Ah so sorry,
a friend of mine visited Cambodia a while ago and went to the old old temples Ankor Thom and Ankor Vat (spelling?) which he said the local kids would English-ize into Uncle Tom and Uncle Watt. Nice picture too, lots going on there.

He,he.. Now I understand. I guess it sounds pretty much like Un(g)-cle.. I don't think they try to make it sound like Uncle though.. It's just the way it's pronounced. The word Angkor sounds a lot like the word "Uncle" - spoken by an Asian - to native English speakers when spoken in Khmer (Cambodian). And Thom does sound exactly like Tom. I never thought about it like that.. I usually go to the temples a couple of times every year, and I'll make sure to say hello to Uncle Tom the next time. Maybe I can even do an outdoor shave and post a SOTD pic from there..
