Default Call of the Wild……err……. Turkey?

Wild Turkey season is just around the corner here in Tennessee. Not the bourbon, the bird.

Allen Bailey of Chuckey, Tennessee made the box call in the photo. Mr. Bailey is 70 years old and learned woodworking at his grandfather’s sawmill. He became an avid turkey hunter and guide, and a natural extension of these two skills became making turkey calls.

Mr. Bailey’s calls are a work of art. This one is his inlayed diamond pattern. He makes about 400 calls a year. I’m fortunate to own #33 from this year’s production.

This box call is patterned after the famous Lynch Fool Proof and has a Mahogany lid and Sassafras soundboard.

To celebrate such a grand American bird, a great American razor. My 11/16ths Spike.

Cool Monday night shave-Harley in the army WWI

Prep:Hot shower + Proraso preshave cream
Razor: Dovo 6/8 Best Quality Rnd Point
    Piramid honed: 5K, 8K and 10K Naniwas
Brush: SRD silver tip # 3
Soap: Vintage Blades Lavender in wooden bowl
    Astringent: Thayers Lemon
    AS: Proraso Splash

With all the gun aficionados posting their favorite firearms. I though of pairing Harleys with guns. There is a long history of Harleys in the army. The pic for today shows a 1917 twin engine. Capacity in cc 989. Ignition: Magneto. Number of gears 3 (in 1911 was one, two gears in 1913) Drive system: chain.
Location: Definitely the western front. Notice all the mud...this leads me to think the location should be Belgium and the battle of Ypres or Passchendaele.

I'm not all about guns, but with the Golden theme, I had to show my 24 karat gold plated .50 Desert Eagle

Do you have to be told? The result... Golden

    Paul,

    That is a beautiful gun.

Guess I'll wait a little bit to post my crawler bro, we'll start with something different. High end competition grade ball bearing yoyos. 2 different companys here, Caribou Lodge Yoyo Works(a Peak and a Wooly Marmot) on the left and One Drop Designs on the right( a Markmont Project and a Project 2). I used to throw back in middle school when yoyos were the fad, dropped it for a long time then my brother was randomly looking at high end yoyos online and I was hooked. Throwing is very relaxing to me, it's something I can do at almost anytime anywhere. The 4 here range anywhere from $80-110 and I have 6 all together. On a strong throw I can get them to sleep upwards of 6-7 min. and do tricks for over 3 min, and oh boy the knots! Funny enough the owner and machinist at One Drop Designs is a straight razor shaver and I and sbrouwers have restored a couple of his razors, I've been trying to get him to come and join us. And now.......

    The Shave:
    Razor: Engels Leader
    Brush: Vulfix Best Badger
    Soap: My own Vanilla Bourbon
    A.S. : Bay Rum Constanza

Awsome shave with a mean little spike point!
