Thanked: 2516Yep, they are the original faux tortoise. When I got this razor the Pivot Pin was almost falling out and the end of the scales was notched like that. I scavanged an old pivot pin out of another razor along with a washer and redid it. Not a very professional job but it works good and I liked the scales so much I wanted to keep them at least for awhile. The scales were very dirty and looked terrible but they took to polishing very well. Thanks for asking!

Lu,
Thanks a lot for the compliment. She is a real beauty--blade and all--and shaves like a dream. The razor is a Maximilian NOS creation. The scales are Paua shell. I got it from one of my favorite vendors who advertises here at SRP and offers vintage razors for sale.
There is a funny story connected with the razor. I bought it late one Saturday night after seeing its photo on the vendor's website. The following Monday he sent me an email to apologize for not being able to ship it to me immediately. It seems that I purchased the razor before it had arrived from Max and been placed in the vendor's inventory."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

A great citrus Shave!
Pre: Hot Shower
Strop: Kanayama/Filly (50 linen/60 Filly/60 Kanayama)
SS: Benton Clay Lime Bergamot (Awesome scent!!)
SC: Trumpers Limes
Glycerin: 3 Drops
Brush: Shavemac Custom Silvertip

Astringent: Tade Alum Block
ASB: Nivea Sensitive Skin/Trumpers Limes SkinFood

Result - Incredibly smooth BBS shave! I'm only two weeks into using a straight razor, but I'm absolutely loving the result. I shaved 16 hours ago and my face is still smoother than it used to be right after using a cartridge!
Thanks for letting me share!
