After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:
vintage Marshall Fields badger
1941 Ranger Tech/Iridium
Penhaligons Racquets SC (sadly, I am running out of this wonderful toy...........I mean tool)
Dr. Labo Aqua-Collagen- Gel
1970s vintage 'Yatagan' Pour Monsieur
I firmly believe Gillette changed things on all the super speed models made after this earliest version. I've tried 4-5 other variations, and this Ranger is by far the best. Matter of fact, it's the only super speed I use in my small rotation of favorite razors.
The coating is sure nicer on the Ranger......shines more brightly than usual. It seems the Ranger head design must somehow be more receptive to my face than all SS models I've used. I'd bet it was somehow tweaked later in it's career, which then made it a poor fit for me.
The 1941 Ranger Tech would be worth trying out sometime to see how the superspeed incarnations evolved. I was all set to hate this razor, based on poor luck with other super speed versions, but this thing is a kick!

Martin

Razor: 11/16 Joseph Allen & Sons NON-XLL Medium Hollow, Hollow Point
Pre-Shave Cream: Proraso
Soap: Classic Shaving Sandalwood
Soap Scuttle: Lord Nelson Ceramic
Brush: Semogue 1460 Boar
ASB: Nivea Replenishing
Aftershave/Cologne: No. 4711
Great shave this morning with the Joseph Allen I honed last week. Wanted to use it by itself (had another razor during the test shave) to get a better impression of it's performance. Used the Classic Shaving Sandalwood Shaving Soap to check out its cushion and glide. It's performance was good and comparable to the Tabac Soap used in an earlier observation. The cushion was not as good as the creams but was satisfactory for a comfortable shave. The glide was sufficient to allow a smooth and effortless stroke. This mornings shave was a cold shave. The little Lord Nelson Soap Scuttle is cute but it doesn't heat the lather hardly at all. (Just the hot water from the brush) A hot towel soak for about 3 minutes and using the Proraso Pre-Shave Cream was the only beard prep before the lathering (felt very cool when the menthol in the Proraso pre-shave cream found the water in the lather). Other observations; the Semogue Boar brush will take a while to break in. The Lord Nelson Soap Scuttle is a tall shallow mug in essence. I prefer a warm lather and I think my preference is now for the Shaving Creams for lathering. I have one more shaving soap to observe and I will return to my normal shaving pattern. I have personally learned a lot by doing these observations and I hope that they may have been of some benefit to you as well.

Decent shave today with the C&S and the PC lather...still working on the dominant hand side of the neck as I am not confident at all with my left hand crossing over to my right side... (funny...I had the same problem ice skating crossing over with my left foot...just another sharp blade issue)...finished with CarrieM's wonderful a/s milk and the Acqua di Selva.

Plisson Pur Blaireau #10 : Veiga 7/8 : Proraso Pre : Plisson SS : Myrsol K ASL
After a cleaning and sanding work (without mechanical aid), the razor has come back to the shaving world, the blade was very damaged, rusty and with 2 nicks...once I have given a fine edge with only a coticule,....the razor rewards me with a great shave, BBS, comfort and satisfaction....This razor was made in Solingen for a Spanish company that solds products to the King of Spain (the grandpa of the actual King), between 1905 and 1930,

Week of July 26 SOTD - Saturday
Pre-Shave: Stephan's Smooth Shaving Creme Razor: 7/8" Frederick Reynolds wedge, Barber's Notch Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger Lather: Da Bomb (Saigon) Astringent: Thayers Witch Hazel Post-Shave: Trumper's Limes Skin Food Moisturizer: Trumper's Moisturizer Cologne: Trufitt & Hill Grafton 1805 Result: Good prep, sharp blade, great shave. However, I prefer using my Frederick Reynolds when I am sporting a 1-2 days growth...Works best then. But it's Saturday and I can't complain. This blade will be going to Maestro Max for rescale soon (suggestions for nice scales are welcome )
Have a great Saturday guys
