Post Week of September 19 SOTD - Sunday

Technically, this is a Saturday night shave...to let the beard grow an extra 8-10 hrs for Monday's shave.

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Pre-Shave: Stephan's Conditioning Smooth Shave Creme
Razor: 15/16" Filarmonica Doble Temple #14, Full Hollow, Spike point
    Strop: Kanayama 80K tri-strop (40/40/75)
    Brush: 25mm Vestavia Silvertip Badger
Überlather: CarrieM Bay Rum Shave Creme + Mama Bear's Myrrh Shave Soap + Glycerin
Post-shave/Astringent: Thayers Witch Hazel (Lavender, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
    EDT: Penhaligon Quercus
Result: The warm überlather, led by CarrieM's Bay Rum, basked my whiskers in a luxuriously thick, moist and slick cushion and left me feeling exhilarated and in bliss. The Filarmonica's performance was nothing short of legendary and all accounts of praise for this blade, well deserved. BTW: Her edge was polished the night before using my vintage Y/G Escher followed by a quick spin on the Nakayama Maruka Kiita with subsequent stropping on the legendary Kanayama 80K (40 linen, 40 rough leather hide, 75 cordovan). What a smooth edge. The Penhaligon (which I am still using the samples) gave this ritual the proper closure.

They are for the looks. And it shaves as good as it looks. It turned out just like I wanted it.

    Default Sunday Night

The last few shaves I've had have been a little rushed, really just functional shaves. Tonight I took my time, relaxed, and got a little Zen with it. Enjoyed the Act of Shaving.
    Prep: Hot shower, hot towel
    Strop: Illinois 835
    Brush: Comoy Badger
Soap: Proraso white (Aloe and Green Tea)
    Razor: Custom Gotta 120
A/S Balm: Nivea Post Shave Balm
Shave: 2 passes (I'm normally just a 1 pass guy.)
    Result: Clean and Smooth.
Conclusion: I need to make sure I approach the shaving ritual like this more often. With my son undergoing some pretty rough Chemotherapy at the moment, saying I have been tense would be a gross understatement.
Tonight I fell much calmer and better prepared for the week ahead.
    Have a great week fellas
    Grant.
