    Default SOTD 10-12-10

    Prep: Hot towell
Strop: None, razor fresh from GSSixgun. Instructions say "No Strop" before first shave.
    Scuttle: SRD
    Cream: Alraz's Da' Bomb "Bodega"
Brush: TGN Premium Silvertip in handle I turned in Cherry
Razor: National Cutlery "Napoleon" 6/8 to 5/8 slant grind in custom "smoke" scales by GSSixgun.
    After Shave: Alraz's "Bodega" ASB
Result: I purchased this razor from GSSixgun last week. I wanted to wait to shave with it until I had a "no rush" kind of morning. The slant grind is different to get used to, but it shaves like a dream once you get the hang of it. Having a razor that has been restored by GSSixgun has been a dream of mine since I started this journey back in February. So this morning's shave meant a whole lot to me. I used Alraz's "Bodega" cream for the first time today as well. Somebody pinch me, I'm in shaving heaven today. Thanks for letting me share. Enjoy your week gentlemen, you deserve it!

Glad to see that new GSSIXGUN blade in the SOTD so quickly. It's a beauty. And, how about that Bomb? I haven't tried the "Bodega," but have a few of his creams and they really perform!

Keep bringing these gorgeous SOTD entries!

SOTD Tuesday October 12, 2010 - Columbus Day

Razor: 11/16 Loeffler & Sykes, Half Hollow, Spike Point - "Columbus" Shank Etch
    Pre-Shave: Proraso Crema Pre Barba
    Shaving Cream: La Toja Classic
    Lather Bowl: Ceramic
    Scuttle: RAB Ceramic
    Brush: CC Barbershop Badger
    ASB: Nivea Replenishing
    Aftershave/Cologne: Adidas Dynamic Pulse
    Results: Great!
In honor of Columbus Day, ( and to go along with Jose's theme) I used the La Toja SC and a Loeffler & Sykes razor that I found in an Antique Store for about $20. bucks. This razor has a picture that looks to me like Christopher Columbus holding a flag (similar to a painting I saw of Columbus's discovering America) Without any additional provenance as to define this model, I call it the "Columbus" razor. I have a F.N. Loeffler razor with a picture on the shank of a man in an overcoat and "Our Drummer" stamped on it but, this one has no name; just the picture. At any rate, this is an outstanding shaving razor that will soon undergo a scale upgrade and, take a prominent place in my rotation.

    Tuesday 10/12/10

Schick L Type injector w/ Chinese Schick blade (3)
    Edwin Jagger BBB
    La Toja sc
    Thayers Cucumber WH w/ aloe
    Speick a/s
    Anherb a/s conditioner
    Vetiver by Guerlain

Two days growth led to the injector which gave me a great shave. Too many razors to choose from and I end up not using most of them. The La Toja makes lather easily and provided great cushioning for the Schick. A fine finish with the Speick/Anherb and the Guerlain Edt.

Aura Glow as a Pre Shave Oil
    Erasmic Shave Cream
    Vulfix 660 Pure
    R. Helliwell Crystal 9/16ths
    SRD Premium I Strop ... 45 Linen/90 Leather
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Nivea AS Balm
    Aqua Velva Musk AS

The Crystal is capable of as good a shave as the best of 'em, but if I get soap on my hands it becomes tough to grip. It's a wee little blade, and measures .148 in width at the spine, or just a tad more than 3.5 mm..
The little 9/16ths might look out of place if made from thicker stock, but it sure would be easier to hold on to!
