01-17-2011, 11:43 AM #51Razor: Heljestrand No. 4 (Courtesy of Mikael)
Strop: (Kanayama (leather only - fresh off Oozuku Suita)
SS: Creed GIT
Brush: Semogue 2010 LE
Astringent: Thayers Rose
ASB: CarrieM
EdT: L.T. Piver Vetiver
This razor recently came to me out of the generosity of my friend here, Mikael. It was a complete surprise in many respects: (1) because I neither asked for nor expected to receive it and (2) it honed up so easily!
The shave itself was a very nice one. Today was my first go with the Creed Shave Soap. It has the most wonderful aroma of any SS I've tried - a dead ringer for its namesake. The lather was slick, but not as thick as I'd like (first run and all) but left my face very moisturized. The razor was everything I could have hoped for. The Swedish steel took a very keen edge yet was butter smooth as it wiped away 2+ days of growth. I was left BBS in two passes! The topper of it all was the fresh, green scent of Piver's Vetiver; it played the perfect compliment to the GIT soap and has me ready to tackle the day!

Robert,
That's difficult to say. Brush makers tend to have their own categories of grading the hair used in the manufacture of their brushes.
I have seen what appear to be the same Vie-Long brush on different vendors' websites advertised as white badger on one and silvertip on the other. One vendor alleges that the Vie-Long white badger is comparable to the European white badger used by Plisson in their brushes, which is pretty high quality.
If there is a difference in the type of badger hair or the quality, I can't tell the difference. I'm so impressed with the one Vie-Long that I own, that I'm seriously thinking of getting another Vie-Long at some point. In fact, there is a sale on some Vie-Long brushes at one vendor right now. Shoot me a pm and I'll provide you with the url."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Week of January 16 SOTD - Monday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 26mm Simpson "Chubby #2", 3-band Super Badger Razor: 7/8" Solingen Stainless, 1/4 Hollow, Round Point Strop: 60/75 (Torolf linen/Premium IV leather) Überlather: Acca Kappa "1869" Shave Creme + Acca Kappa "1869" Shave Soap + Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue Cologne: Acca Kappa "1869" EdC Results: An excellent shave for this beautiful Monday morning. The Solingnen Stainless delivered a lovely and smooth shave. It took a few tries, but I believe that I have finally dialed-in the honing regimen for this blade (from last time...no touch up needed, just stropping). She still kept her wonderfully sharp edge from last time I honed her. And the Acca Kappa SC/SS combo provided my skin with the wonderfully thick and moist lather that I have come to expect from my cremes/soaps. A spectacular and irritation free shave!!!

Have a GREAT Monday gentlemen.
