This is the first time I used the straight razor first thing in the morning before I had to be somewhere (an interview). What a great way to start the day!
Pre-Shave: Shower
Brush: Vestavia 25mm Silver Tip
Razor: Boker Edelweiss 5/8 w/ bone scales
Strop: SRD 3" Premium I - 30/50 fabric/leather
Lather: TOBS Lavender soap, TOBS Lavender cream, glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Lavender)
After Shave: Castle Forbes Lavender
Cologne Splash: Lavender and Lime
Post-Interview Libation: Signatory label un-chillfiltered Highland Park 19 year old single sherry butt cask.
I am a big lavender fan and TOBS is one of my favorites; such a fresh scent. Had a clean shave done in a timely manner. An interview is a piece of cake after putting 3" of razor sharp steel to you face and coming away unscathed. Decided to uncork a special scotch to celebrate.

I hear you Tom...Do you think all synthetic brushes will be this high quality that I won't feel the difference or just Muhle? For traveling, it may be an interesting choice.
LOL, LOL
Thank you monsieur. It really handles very very well...very easy on the wrists.
Bill-san,
Glen does great work. As for the lather: I've had that happen to me a few times with the CarrieM cremes. It depends what kind of soap it gets mixed with and moreover, it's just a matter of getting the right ratio of water/creme/air. This AM, I was a bit more interested in seeing how the scents complemented each other (and they did) than the lather quality, whose creation I approached more generically than specifically. The lather was actually very good once it was re-whipped in the scuttle during each pass, so no complaints.
Thanks for the kind words about the pict and brush
ARRRRGH my friend. Thanks for the warm welcome. The scents complementarity is dead on. Match made in Heaven, I would say...I just have to watch out for the right ratio of water/soap/air. I was not too careful today. Although lather was neither here nor there. Nice and creamy, but a bit lacking in texture and elasticity (which I attribute to lack of moisture)
On a slightly different topic (still scent-related):
You know, the Indian Sandalwood (Cyril Salter) is one of my favorite scents right now (as far as pure EO scent goes). It is very different than other Sandalwoods and extremely intoxicating. I have heard that the QED Sandalwood is the closest as far as scent...so, that soap may be a great complement to the creme. The Bay Rum in today's experiment is not quite there, but given the trend, I can easily see it becoming one of top 5 scents very very soon. It's amazing how one's olfactory sense develops and changes over time.
Acca Kappa makes great (but relatively simple) AS and colognes. I do have 4 or 5 of the EdC and like them all to varying degrees. The White Moss is one that my wife likes (as do I), the blue Lavender is one she likes (but I dislike), The cedar we both like and the Hibiscus, we both like very much. Of course, there's the classic 1869, which one cannot go wrong with.
The hibiscus (specifically the Hibiscus sabdariffa which this AS/EdC is made of, i think) is an interesting one I got for one reason other than scent. This flower has not only antibacterial properties but is also known to lead to a reduction of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and to some extent DBP too. Application of this to the skin after a good shave will cool the surface of the skin by increasing blood flow to the epidermis and dilating the pores of the skin. Good stuff
That's a beautiful blade Bruce. I love this one
Thank you kindly sir.
Doug,
I take it the interview went well?!!! Inquiring minds want to know. Which do you like better? First or second company?
FANTASTIC Teiste. I love DR Harris soaps. Top notch performers and hard to beat.Last edited by Maximilian; 03-04-2011 at 10:57 PM. Reason: removed quoted pic

I think so, will have to wait until sometime next week to find out.
They are very different jobs, one is as a loan analyst for a bank the other is as a project manager for a telecom. Both paths are interesting to me and I've had a good impression with both companies. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to have to make the difficult choice between them.
Thanks for the interest.
