Bill, I don't love the VE. I prefer the Encre Noire which is similar to me. The VE does last forever....I'm talking 15 hours later...still was going strong on me.

Razor: Warranted cast steel, 6/8 wedge.
Strop: nun2sharp's hanging leather strop
After Shave Splash: Lavender spice, house blend
Notes: First shave with this baby after I fixed her up, (The resto thread is here) she needs a little fine tuning but a nice and close shave nonetheless. It does seems natural to me to face lather with a shave stick, but that stuff never worked for me, always seem to end up with too dry lather so I use a mug.

Result: Today was a mixed bag, for sure. Taking the advice of Birnando, I attempted to revive my (what I thought to be) dull razor into a shave ready masterpiece of three days beforehand. I stropped about 40-60 laps on fabric (an old pair of jeans) and on leather (my original strop). The events that followed were quite interesting. The blade itself seemed to shave better than the day before by a significant margin, but still not up to par with how it was shaving the first day I got the razor. However, I think this might be able to be attributed to not enough stropping on the fabric/leather to revive the edge, as I don't think significant damage was done.

However, that being said, my overall better experience today was damaged from my face showing clear irritation where the blade had been on my face. I think this can be explained by overcompensation (i.e I used a steeper blade angle than I probably should have because I thought the edge was dull). Hopefully tomorrow will be even better (and i'll actually have the uberlather this time!). All in all the day's shave wasn't bad. My stropping felt MUCH better! VDH with glycerin isn't that bad.... perhaps an uberlather would have been phenomenal. We'll see......

Indeed. I have never used Proraso in this combination. In fact, I haven't used Proraso at all for the last few months. That's strange, considering that it was the first shave cream that I ever tried once I began wet shaving with a DE razor several years ago. Its fantastic! I had the closest, irritation free shave I've had in quite a while. If you haven't tried the cream or the soap, please do. Believe me, its worth it.
