07-03-2011, 02:38 PM #23Razor:J. Wostenholm & Sons EBRO "Special Hollow Ground"
Brush:Rooney Pure Badger
Soap:Omega
AS:Thayers Lavender and Brut Attitude
Result:Finally after three months I displayed the patience needed to get this razor ready to shave. I got it for free as a throw in with another razor. As you can probably see, it has hellacious hone wear and also has a slight twist.I don't kow how many times I tried to hone it and had to put it away before I threw it out the window. I'm glad I stuck with it though, because this razor gave me one of the greatest shaves I've ever had today. This has definitly been a lesson in not giving up on those problem blades. Now to get to the rest of them.
Have a great week everybody, and as always great shaves!!!

Week of July 3 SOTD - Sunday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 24mm Morris & Forndran, 2-band Blonde Badger Razor: 7/8" Akamatsu Manaslu "M-55", Full Hollow Ground, Spike Point Honing (refresh): Nakayama Maruka Kiita/Asagi hybrid JNat w/ light slurry (tomonagura), finished with 50 laps on water only. Strop: 40/55 laps (Neil Miller linen / SRD Premium IV leather) Überlather: Trumper's "Violet" Shave creme + Trumper's "Rose" Shave Soap +Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave/Cologne: Alt Innsbruck AS/Cologne Aftershave Balm: Sabon Results: Manaslu's turn today and about time too since her last debut eons ago. I touched her up on the Asagi/Kiita last night and she was ready to deliver on demand . All the Japanese western style straights that I own or have had the pleasure of shaving with have consistently been top performers in my book. As far as the lather was concerned, the Trumper's Violet/Rose übercombo was sensational. The intoxicating floral scent encapsulated the shave den...I had to fight my wife out of the den so I could begin my zen like shave . The shave was phenomenal in every regard . Finished things up with a little mix of Trumper's Moisturizer and Alt Innsbruck...What a feeling; BBS and irritation free. Now, I am off working on a couple of projects, a grant and a provisional patent application. Hmmmm...Who'd have thought that being out of work would actually end up being busier and more rewarding!!?? Deadlines still looming and my wife's never seen me happier. Go figure. Either I am back asswards or the world works in strange ways.
Have a SENSATIONAL Sunday Gentlemen.

Nice cold shave Alexander. In hot summer day, it hits the spot. Al's creme and balm are a great choice to start and finish things off too
Craig,
That is a beautiful Dovo buddy...I just wish they came in 7/8+ in size too.
T.,
Kudos for sticking to it...That's exactly where the best parts of learning how to hone come into play. Well done

Robert,
Thanks for the compliment. Yep. The Wilbert is from SRP member, BKratchmer's website. I think he made the scales himself. They're made of wood, sealed and quite beautiful. The photo doesn't do them justice.
I just opened the box w/ the Naniwas. I purchased them as a a birthday gift to me. I'm watching YouTube videos about lapping and honing before I dive in. I have some not-too-far-gone vintage razors that I purchased from ebay to practice on.Last edited by jhenry; 07-04-2011 at 10:16 AM.

Thanked: 1185Prep: Morning PT, Lukewarm Shower, Baby Oil Gel
Razor: Imperial Extra Hollow Ground
Brush: Omega Boar
Soap: TSD English Fern
AS: Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Finish: Agua Lavanda Puig, Firehouse Wacky Tacky
This razor was so great yesterday that I just couldn't resist giving it another go today. Ya know, even though I'm no longer welcome on their forum, TSD does make some darned good soaps.
The older I get, the better I was
