Nice cold shave Alexander. In hot summer day, it hits the spot. Al's creme and balm are a great choice to start and finish things off too

As you can probably see, it has hellacious hone wear and also has a slight twist.I don't kow how many times I tried to hone it and had to put it away before I threw it out the window. I'm glad I stuck with it though, because this razor gave me one of the greatest shaves I've ever had today. This has definitly been a lesson in not giving up on those problem blades. Now to get to the rest of them.

Kudos for sticking to it...That's exactly where the best parts of learning how to hone come into play. Well done

    Hi Robert.
I tried shaving with cold water and I liked it. Clean and no skin irritation.
You did not order the new cream of Al?
(I'm looking at our forum guys in the U.S. and Canada use Russian shaving cream, and I'm American )

Hmmmm...One of these days, I will give cold water shave one more try. I did test it once, but preferred warm lather.

I haven't ordered any new cremes from Al recently. The two I have are custom scents he did for me some time ago...I love it

She's gorgeous Monroe. Congrats on a nice acquisition. Same goes for the naniwas. Videos are fine and dandy, but at some point, you just will need to bite the bullet and jump with both feet into the deep end. best way to learn, imo. But remember not to use your good blades learning.

Beautiful shave M...The Ogallala bath soap is really great. Not my wife's favorite though (so we don't use it often). Congrats on that Friodur and brush. They both look marvelous. use them in good health. Looks like you already own some nice razors and are on the prowl for some very sought after ones. I can't wait to see them featured on SOTD soon

It's barely a hollow-grind, so it has that wonderful feeling of a wedge. You know, the feeling of just wiping away lather and being uncertain if you're actually shaving, but after touching your skin you feel buttery smooth? Yeah, that goodness.

    God, I love shaving.
    Derek,
First and most importantly, congrats on you and your wife getting some extra sleep today. What a treat. That must feel good indeed

Secondly, I think that all of us here know exactly what you mean...I love those kinds of shaves. They are a testament of a wonderful razor and great prep. Well done. May all your shaves be just as good

    Paul,
You're doing the right thing by waiting buddy. You're going to need more than just a wedge to pull a BBS...I think this job will calls for a machete, LOL. Once the WTG is done by it, then, you can resort to normal razor shave, LOL

So, wife was out when you cut yourself (i.e., she hasn't seen the cut yet)? What makes you think she's going to agree with you on getting a Revisor or TI as a gift? For all you know, she may ban you from straight shaving, deeming it hazardous to your health, LOOOOOOOL.

Very nice again, this thing gets better and better, I thoroughly enjoy straight shaving now. I am also thankful to all of you here (as well in other forums of course) for their contributions, a lot learned and without all that things would certainly be different. . Today I attempted a second pass, XTG, with great success. Splendid!
    Konstantinos,
Congratulations on your successful XTG shave with this rather beautiful frameback. Looks like you're fast becoming and expert straight shaver (and an addict, LOL). Well done brother. I am glad you stuck with it.

PS: I didn't know that Simpson also made custom brushes!!!?? Nice one

Although, I am thinking about displaying the brushes a bit more openly like you have (but outside the den). Right now, I just take out what I want for the month (usually 4) and store the rest.

Post Week of July 3 SOTD - Monday

    Independence Day Shave

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Brush: 24mm Morris & Forndran, 2-band Blonde Badger
Maxterpiece: 7/8" Novelty "1879", Full Hollow Ground, Spike Point (Ebony scales + yellow wedge)
Honing Regimen: Naniwa 1k, Shapton 1k/2k, Coticule La Grosse Blanche (Dilucot), Nakayama Maruka Kiita/Asagi hybrid JNat w/ slurry (tomonagura).
Strop: 5/10 laps (Torolf linen / SRD Premium IV leather)
Überlather: Al's Da Bomb "Cloves/Orange/Cinnamon" Shave creme
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue
Aftershave Balm: Al's "Spicy Orange" ASB
Results: An early morning shave for me. Today is Independence day and what better way to celebrate it than with one of my Maxterpieces and Al's Shaving creme. So, I took out the Novelty which Max had done in beautiful ebony wood. Even though this blade was honed to satisfaction by yours truly, I wanted to try something a bit novel. I have recently found myself in a love affair with my Kiita/Asagi JNat ...She produces an edge that rivals the best of the best in Japanese stones (I think). Between the bevel setting (with the Naniwa/Shaptons) and the JNat, I inserted a Coticule regimen to cover the middle range of the stones (e.g., ~5k-10k). The edge then visited the Asagi/Kiita Honzan with 3 nagura progressions. And the end result was a super nice, sharp and ultra smooth edge . Al's bomb produced a luxuriously thick and moist lather that I have come to really love and rely on. There's no guessing game with this one...Once you find her sweet spot, it's hard to find anything else that can beat this stuff in performance . The final piece de resistance came from Al's Spicy Orange AS balm. This stuff is like no other...A super moisturizing creme that goes on without irritation. Another great day for sure. BBS and irritation free.

Have a FANTASTIC 4th of July Monday (to those of us that celebrate it) Gentlemen. Be safe and have fun.

    Thanks!

Nop. I think if I were an editor or publisher I would hate Titivillus.

I wanted to use another one but it was occupied. Yes I choose this daemon because I think it’s a very interesting character of medieval Christian mythology. BTW I like everything concerning to Middle Ages, codex, miniatures, monks. For me it’s not a dark period. Unknown… may be. However I’m not an expert.

    Thanks for your interest!

No, she was there and walked in on me and startled me. I just looked at her, then as she was looking at me the blood started to come.... It took a quite a few seconds for my face to realize I was cut and bleed but I knew it was bad....
