Post Week of July 31 SOTD - Wednesday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
    Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger
Razor/Blade: Merkur 39C Slant + Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile blades
Lather: Trumper's "Eucris" Shave Soap (Thanks Rene ) + Glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue AS
Results: I hadn't shaved with a DE for so long, I was afraid that I might have forgotten how to. So, today I took out (and dusted) my DE slant for this purpose. I loaded her up with Bolsano blades that I recently purchased and took her out for a spin. Also new today was a sample of the Eucris shave soap I received from Rene yesterday (thanks buddy)...this thing really smells great, not to mention that it produces a great lather. Not surprising given that it's Trumper's. . The prep/lather was wonderful as was the Bolsano, but I must confess that as much as I loved this shave, I really prefer my straight...I get a much smoother and enjoyable shaves from them than a DE.

    Have a SPECTACULAR Wednesday gentlemen.

I know what you mean mate. DE's have their place, I find them great for my head and also for a travel razor when travelling light, but you just cant bet the good old Straight.

I'm not kidding Bela, when I scrolled down and saw this pic my heart rate accelerated. Both the razor and knife are absolutely beautiful. WOW.

No shave for me tonight, I touched up my Wade & Butcher and want to test it on a 2 day growth so I'll leave it until tomorrow.
Thanks for all the outstanding posts and pics gentlemen.

Beautiful pair Béla. That Kozuka is amazing. The handles are from sting ray skin?! What do you use the knife for or is it purely collection?

For a second I thought you were talking about Santa Claus, LOOOOL. Beautiful snatch buddy. Congratulations and use her in good health.

PS: Rune certainly is quickly becoming a honing machine and a source of great straights.

This was a special one for me, so I held on to a good three-day beard. My first shave with my first self-restored and self-honed razor (being the first serious honing attempt).
    Pithor,
Welcome to SOTD and congratulations on the counts of honing and restoring. Very nicely done. That's a great looking brush (can't go wrong with a TGN badger)..And yet another mention of Rune being a supplier, LOL

Getting past this great shave, this is one beautiful razor. Love the design/scales.

    Jack,
Great "little" razor, but she doesn't look all that small to me...maybe a 4/8"?

Not a full BBS today. My AS helped a lot and now it's practically gone. I'll have to look into it before next use.
    Sten,
Nice Hospital...Is this the Le Grelot Hospital or different? Sorry about the razor burn though. I am also curious as to why she wasn't all that.

    Paul,
So are you saying you're now a DE convert, LOOOL? For me personally, as easy as it is using a DE, I find that straights are much much more enjoyable to use (not to mention that they give me a much closer shave)

That is just too funny José...Go figure, scales with parachutes. Well, it so happens that we are headed to Yosemite in early September. If you want to drop by, we can certainly test that theory (in a safe way of course), LOOOOOOL

Yes Robert, sorry for the confusion - indeed it is. Stamped Le Grelot Hospital Medaille d'Or on the reverse, Bayle Annonay on the front.

    Wednesday Night
    Razor: Sprock 6/8
    Cream: Body Shop Maca Root
    Brush: New Forest 2213 Chunky
Post: Alum - Blue Stratos AS
    Result: Smooth and close.
No razor honing today but I did use my new found skills to restore and sharpen the knife. I bought it about 30 years ago aged 11 partly as an act of rebellion towards my parents who had said I couldn't have one. I was at a friends house and we went into town, I'd saved up the money and although the guy in the shop wasn't too happy about it (he offered to let me phone my parents from the shop) I bought it. When I arrived back at my fiends house his mother saw from our faces that we'd been up to something, found out and made me ring my parents. When I got home my dad had me show him it, said they would trust me to be careful with it and gave it back to, me some rebellion huh! Over the following few years it sharpened many sticks and spend a lot of time being thrown at trees. Leaving the carbon steel blade tarnished rusting and blunt, today it is shining and sharp in a way that it hasn't been for many many years. (BTW My son is 11, I offered to buy him a Swiss Army knife he declined!)
