I have rarely used one razor more than once every 2-3 weeks or so, and sometimes I think I might do better if I just used one for several days in a row. Since I honed this razor I thought why not this one. So, I'm going to continue to use this Salamandar as long as I can to see how my face reacts, how the razor reacts and how quickly it loses its edge. I'm not going to continually post pics of the same razor, even if I alternate the software. But, I will write about the experience here. Have a great Tuesday men!!
    Mike,
Great music with that shave buddy. Those Salamanders, despite their size, seem to be amazing shavers. Have fun with the experiment. Eagerly awaiting your results and assessment

I was excited about this shave. I hadn't broken out the Wosty in a while and I was trying another new product from Al's Shaving Products. The shave started lovely. I didn't have much stubble after yesterday's excellent performance by the Flaschner, so I was thinking of a quick shave. The lavender started exploding in the shave bowl, and I began thinking of southern France. As I worked it into my whiskers, the scent completely overwhelmed me (in a very good way). The first pass was outstanding. The second pass, I began thinking about how great the shave was, and mentally drafting my SOTD post - I lost my focus on the shave and gave myself a little nick on the cheek. Then, I got so distracted thinking about how stupid I had been that I cut myself on the side of the nose too... So my awesomely lovely shave turned into a mess - but it was certainly no fault of the tools. This was all me... The silver lining of this cloudy story, though, is that I am BBS and smell great!
Sorry about the "Double Lesson" Bill...I guess the Wostys just command all the attention they can get and don't settle for anything less. heal fast bro

That is one great restore buddy...Quite a nice transformation from its prior look. These Kobars are amazing shavers and take on an even more amazing edge. I had the pleasure of honing one for our late fellow wetshaver Mark (AKA, Blugill - may he RIP).

This razor was an eBay gamble, the photo looked like it was rusted and awful. But the seller claimed it was quite nice, so I took the chance. I have to say it was surprisingly fine for a pre-1890 razor, and hollow ground was a nice surprise as well.
I didn't get the coti finishing exactly as smooth as I wanted to, but I'll take work of that.
    Amund,
I saw that one too...Great find buddy and congrats. Use her in great health.

PS: I am sure you'll get that Coti to behave the way she should soon enough. Great honing bro

Post Week of September 25 SOTD - Tuesday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Brush: 27mm Rodney Neep Extra Stuffed Silvertip Badger w/ Soap Stone "Dreadnaught" Handle
Razor: 15/16" Bartmann #504, Full Hollow Ground, Round Point (w/ Original Black scales)
Honing Regimen: 5 (light pressure) laps on CrOx on Bridle IV (sanded) leather strop.
Strop: 0/40 (Ambrose Horse Hide Clásico leather)
Überlather: CarrieM "Lilac" Shave Creme + Mama Bear "Lilac Patchouli" Shave Soap + Glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Lavender, no alcohol)
After Shave Balm: RazoRock AS Wax
    Cologne: Diptyque "Philosykos" EdT (sample)
Results: Two new products featured today; (1) Bartmann, and (2) my RN brush (which finally arrived after 3+ weeks in transit - 90% of which was within the US ). I received this Bartmann yesterday in the mail, shave ready...5 [light] laps around the CrOx/leather strop and plain leather and she was ready for action this AM. I love this brush (well worth the wait). My wife immediately fell in love with the design and the handle/material (as did I). The bristles are just super dense and super soft. She lost perhaps ~15 hairs while cleaning (to be expected with this much hair). She was well matched with the Mama Bear/CarrieM, whose combination I had missed very much. The brush whipped up mounds of super moist and deliciously fragrant lather. Just "perfect". I can't say enough about MB soaps...they all have abundant glide and cushion. Today, I opted for a simple "experimental" post shave treatment; No aftershave or moisturizers...just a dash of WH toner followed by a small amount of RazoRock AS wax rubbed against a freshly shaved skin. . It felt FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC. To finish, I used a sample I recently received (as part of one of purchases) of the Diptyque Philosykos (a very down to earth Fig scent...very nice)

Have a SPLENDID Tuesday gentlemen .

    Cool Tuesday Morning Test Shave

This one just arrived last night, though they are rare as hen teeth they actually do exist

The razor is an NOS Thistle Cutlery Co. in a full 7/8 size
It only needed a quick MAAS wipe down and honing, I went straight to the Chosera 1k for the bevel set then to the Shapton GS system in 1-2-4-6-8-16-30 I followed this with my double leather Tony Miller pasted hanger with 10 laps .50 Diamond and 15 laps .25 Diamond... Last night I did 50/100 on a Illinois #827 this morning before the shave I used my JimboRoo strop for 25 laps... The term "Wicked Sharp" is what comes to mind

    The Shave:

The Uberlather: TGQ Highlander Cream and Soap with 5 drops of glycerin
    The Brush: ShaveMac 28mm SilverTip
    The Aftershave: Brut

The shave was a just that, a shave, no shower for a prep just a few hot towels, whipped up a nice fluffy Uber and brushed it in, let that sit while I did the 25 laps on the Roo strop... Another steaming towel and a re-lather.. Started with one WTG pass wiped off the lather and and felt my face,,,,,, WOW,,,,, OK I am done, that was it, I could mess with the edges of the beard a bit but one pass and done, huge waste of Uberlather
As I sit here typing and feeling the effects of the shave I think I could have done a tiny bit of ATG around the neck but the cheeks are just way too smooth.. But there is zero irritation because of using only one feather light pass the blade barely skimmed the lather off my face...
Yeah this razor is a keeper and will sit in the drawer with my other 3 NY Thistle's waiting for the next chance to come out and slay hairs..

    .

    Razor: Iberia 13
    Strop: Ambrose Spanish Horse (20/60)
    Preshave: Castle Forbes
    Brush: Vie Long e16510
lather: Martin de Candre sans parfum
    AS: Myrsol agua balsámica
EdT: Jimmy Boyd, Agua de Bosque
Comments: I've chosen a winner combination for lather with the MdC which virtually melts in lather when the brush works it, furthermore when the brush is as efficient as this Vie Long with firm bristles but soft tips. The preshave was not needed in this shave, but better to use it today because the Iberia has a edge pretty sharp but a it crispy in the skin,...I prefer a softer feeling, a task to do with the stones ... more fun! . The Myrsol's "agua balsamica" is a blend of rosemary, lavender and thyme with alcohol but no moisturizing ingredients different than the plant extracts...but the scent is in the same range as Martin de Candre and it goes well after this soap, you can read a review here: Water Myrsol balsamic. - Foroafeitado . I chose an EdT with balsamic scent, the "Wood water" from Jimmy Boyd, a perfumist from the USA established in Spain with some nice creations.
