Today's Shave:
Preparation: Hot Shower/Jojoba Oil
Razor: E.M. Dickinson Invicta with Purple Heart Scales
Brush: Semoque 830
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Old Spice
Today I shaved with my first custom restored razor. I have messed around with some others for practice but this one I felt was worth the effort. I purchased purple heart for the scales. I have a simple 'shop' which was located on my back porch. I used a dremel, a coping saw and some elbow grease to finish up the scales. I went from 60 all the way to 2000 grit sand paper. You cannot tell from the pics but it does have a nice finish. I applied some Howard's Feed-n-Wax as a final step. I honed it on my Norton 4k/8k combo this morning. I only thing I did to the blade is apply some MAAS. I think in this case the blade was in good condition and did not warrant any aggressive treatments. There are some stains on it but I think it gives it a little soul. The shave went fairly well. I still have trouble spots around the bottom of my neck and around my chin but I am still learning.

A hobby I had neglected a few years ago, coins. This is a rather large coin..
..
Scent= Excellent to my nose, it is there, but not overpowering
Lather = Good, I have been trying two different samples of theirs that I came home with from the Yakima meet up, I like it, I would love it if it would lather just a bit creamier for me... I do have Very Hard well water, so I am a pretty tuff customer though :)
@Arioch:
That looks like alotta silver! But how do you like your Red Ring? That is an awesome razor!!!
*When I try to reply with a quote, I keep getting a message that says my message is too short and needs to have atleast 10 characters, even though it does! Does anyone know whats up with that?

I am a huge baseball fan, and as such I have collected quite a bit of baseball memorabillia along the way. Most of it is packed away at the moment as I don't really have anywhere to display it. I also have a closet completely full of baseball cards. Probably my biggest collection of all.:)

Rune came over with this razor he restored and rescaled for me, looks beautiful. :)
This razor is very hollow, and with great steel that took a Shapton 30k edge very well.
Jumped right into the top list of my best shavers.

HI Gents!! It's been a while, but I could not resist the 'hobby' themed week.
First, today was an all Old Spice day. Drives my wife crazy!!
The razor is Roy Boy's Gong razor, fresh off the buffers and stone. Today's shave with it was magnificent. Smooth as silk, sharp enough to split atoms. A great 2 pass shave!!!

Now for hobby week.... I have so many hobbies, Shaving, restoring razors, bowling, Camping + Fishing, but the one hobby that has persisted since childhood is music!
I live in a fairly small house so we have to be very judicious on what we include in the living room. My wife also loves music and plays the piano, guitar as well as the drums, I play everything in the room. I have a Squire Strat signed by Mike Burckett from Ghost in the Machine, a Takimini 12 and 6 string (I let the wife think the 6 string is hers), the 12 string is not out of the case. It is a vintage 12 string made by the master himself and costs more than my house does. Needless to say it doesn't come out very often, just special occasions. I also own a 1982 Hondo Model 766 which I have been told is the last survivor of the breed. It is featured in the Guitar Museum (online).
The electric drum set is to conserve space, and my huge Vox setup is out in the shed and only comes out when real horsepower is required, which is not very often these days. Otherwise my little Raven and my Rogue Chorus amps do the trick when I want to rock out. I love the blues, but any old rock and roll will do when company comes over (Clapton, Allman Bro's, Johny Lang, etc..) plus the oldies.
I can't very well get it all into one pic, so here is a few to cover the bases. :) Enjoy the week!!

Yes!
Speedster spices up the SOTD to include not just coffee, but expresso.
Some may find this more important than a firm brush, a sharp blade or a warm lather; a fact not lost on Speedster.
Hats off to Speedster - your creativity is outstanding.

I like fishing. The fun kind! Don't much care if I get a bite, just like being there. I also have a collection of some older fishing stuff. I really dig it! A nice shave with a Torry Swedish razor in salute to our lost brother Mark Colliau, AKA "Blugill" who was an avid fisherman. Some, if not most of you did not know him, but he was a card. A big ol lovable pile of personality and kindness. I still miss him. We learned of his passing one year ago today from Lynn in the "Hall of Rememberance" forum. Mark coined the phrase "Catfish Belly Smooth" in his posts here. A great fellow!
Here, also, is his last submittal for SOTD dated 5/31/11. How he LOVED his American steel and especially his Custom Torrey "Shark Razor"!
Rest in Peace, Brother!
Plan as you will live forever. Live as you will die tomorrow.
Thanks, Tom

And the another my hobby...watches. I don't have the top brands swiss watches. But I very like my old (40's 50's) watches. The Patek Philippe remains a dream, but dreams are needed, they provide motivation to me... ;)
Friday
A long weekend for us in this neck of the woods, and an early finish at work for me today and a nice sunny day after a FREEZING morning. The day started with a nice DE shave with a Gillette 7 o’clock blade and O Melhor cream. Two passes and then a bit of touching up to perfection.
A weights workout on arrival at home, with still good progress being made on the reps (from 6,6,6, to 10, 9, 9 on all sets since the 16th of April in 15 workouts. They’re only ½ an hour workouts, consisting of pushups, E Z bar Curls, EZ Bar Triceps ext, EZ Bar military press from front and situps, generally only twice a week, but now increasing to three times a week. System of a Down was today’s workout music; the Mezmerize album.
I’m not going to shave all long weekend until Tuesday morning.
It’s been a great week here, the theme has been excellent, thanks Max. We’ve had some really good conversations, I think…
No echidnas were sighted today.
[EDIT] Oh, forgot the theme thing, camping is another hobby of mine, always to Deep Creek conversation park, 4500 hectares of bushland. It's where I'm heading when the zombie apocalypse comes, with the long bow I'm buying soon, an AK47 and a spear. Oh, also Robinson Crusoe trousers, you know, all raggedy below the knees. I'll order a girl Friday rather than a man Friday though; and it would be nice if she was French, besotted (in me), a good cook, fit and fertile. She should also be a good navigator.
The photos are from Deep Creek. I look odd because generally when I go camping I'm often very drunk......

Grant, you should pick yourself up a Rolleicord III, although after checking eBay JUST after I typed that first bit, I do see they've gone up in price a bit since I got mine. They're good for close ups (with the Rolleinar lens) and also portraits. The lens is really on the softer side of being really sharp, but if you look at Bailey's eyes ion the first picture you can see it's pretty sharp, as is the vodka in the glass...
Box cameras are good too, and with a fixed shutter speed take one variable out of the equation. Ilford HP5 400 ISO Black and White film is really forgiving; you can over expose and under expose quite a bit and still get a pleasing result. Then you need to learn this, and you're all set!

That's incredible scenery!
Very cool razor, I love the scales and think the blade looks just fine. Some soul is definitely nice. I'd leave it just as it is.
In regards to trouble spots, I found only a month or so ago that I hadn't REALLY paid as much attention to how the hairs on my neck actually lay. I found this while contemplating something, after not shaving for a few days, and sort of rubbing my neck and chin in a contemplative 'The Thinker' kind of way. I realised some parts of my neck had hairs definitely going almost completely E to W. It's difficult to go completely ATG on these hairs, I find, but when I DO, I get the best shave ever...
That's been my experience, anyway, just thought I'd share... :-)

I haven't used the Hart in forever and a day. It was nice to see her again. Excessive stropping because it had been so long.
No hobby to post today, but it is kind of fitting. The wife and I submitted the final documents for our adoption home study, one of the last barriers before we'll be approved to adopt a child. Given that fact, I'm betting I'll have less time for my other hobbies outside of shaving, cigars, and guns.
A fantastic week, gents. Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks to mvcrash for offering me this razor from his collection. With the prices on these he could have made some dough on it, but I'm really happy that he decided to give it to me at the "friend price" instead. It's a beautiful razor and a fine shaver and I look forward to having it in my rotation for a long time.
And my hobby is Gardening

So this morning I figured I had the time to really have a great shave, so I went Kamisori

"The Hobby" if you can call it that after 41 years is Martial Arts, Kempo (Godan) and JuJitsu (Sandan), mostly now I just do seminars for Ladies "Street" Defense (it is not PC to call it Rape Defense any longer) and for some of the Law Enforcement Dept's up here...
Today was going to be brewing beer day for the hobby, but I did not shave, much less drag out the homebrew gear for a pic. Sorry gentlemen, busy day. And tomorrow I'm fishing witht the kids. We shall see :)
Razor: Thomas Dewsnap
Brush: Rudy Vey
Soap: Martin de Candre

I don't often like Sheffield steel, but for a Dewsnap I'll make an exception. I was left so smooth I felt sticky, no cuts.
No hobby photo, it's implied that I was shaving for a gig. I take everything very seriously, I don't see anything I do as a hobby. But that's semantics. Have a great weekend.
