Preparation: Hot Shower/Jojoba Oil
Razor: E.M. Dickinson Invicta with Purple Heart Scales
Brush: Semoque 830
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Old Spice
Today I shaved with my first custom restored razor. I have messed around with some others for practice but this one I felt was worth the effort. I purchased purple heart for the scales. I have a simple 'shop' which was located on my back porch. I used a dremel, a coping saw and some elbow grease to finish up the scales. I went from 60 all the way to 2000 grit sand paper. You cannot tell from the pics but it does have a nice finish. I applied some Howard's Feed-n-Wax as a final step. I honed it on my Norton 4k/8k combo this morning. I only thing I did to the blade is apply some MAAS. I think in this case the blade was in good condition and did not warrant any aggressive treatments. There are some stains on it but I think it gives it a little soul. The shave went fairly well. I still have trouble spots around the bottom of my neck and around my chin but I am still learning.

Rune came over with this razor he restored and rescaled for me, looks beautiful.
This razor is very hollow, and with great steel that took a Shapton 30k edge very well.
Jumped right into the top list of my best shavers.

Thanked: 485That's incredible scenery!
Very cool razor, I love the scales and think the blade looks just fine. Some soul is definitely nice. I'd leave it just as it is.
In regards to trouble spots, I found only a month or so ago that I hadn't REALLY paid as much attention to how the hairs on my neck actually lay. I found this while contemplating something, after not shaving for a few days, and sort of rubbing my neck and chin in a contemplative 'The Thinker' kind of way. I realised some parts of my neck had hairs definitely going almost completely E to W. It's difficult to go completely ATG on these hairs, I find, but when I DO, I get the best shave ever...
That's been my experience, anyway, just thought I'd share... :-)
