Received another ebay razor in the mail yesterday, a puma 39 5/8 pour barbe très dure. The seller didn't describe it as shave ready. When I asked him whether he did any work on the blade, he simply told me that he found it at an antique shop, stropped it on a pasted strop, it passed the hanging hair test but that he didn't shave with it.
Given my previous ebay experiences, my expectations were low. I had a hard time imagining that all an antique shop razor find would need is a pasted strop to be shave ready . True or not, boy was I pleasantly surprised! The razor only seems to have factory hone wear and it was genuinely shave ready!
Here is my shave of the day:

Todays stubble scrapings occurred with the following weapons...
Cream : Palmolive green tube
Brush : Men-U synthetic bristle
Razor : Gillette Superspeed flare tip
Blade : Derby
Pre-shave : Hot water
Post-shave : Cold water, alum block
Balm : Nivea sensitive moisturiser
Finish : Up to my usual DE standards... smooth.
Comments : After years of using Tesco "own brand"/Personna rebadge, I plumped for a selection pack from Shaving Shack; 10 personna, 10 derby, and loaded the flare tip with 1 derby. They're not as aggressive as the personna, and are a welcome addition to the armoury. To be honest, I think the alum block's faulty... there was no sting.~ Dave ~ ... back to lurking...
