Thanked: 485So what's your plan? I'd be interested to know. I've never used a Naniwa 12k, but have you ever used a Shapton 16k? I find 10 very light laps on the Shapton leaves my razors quite smooth, but it'd all very subjective, isn't it? I normally do 20 on the Shapton for my Swedish razors. I'm no expert at all, but I'd bet a six pack of German beer that razor is Swedish...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 1072Strop: MickR's Roo Hide
Soap: MWF
Brush: Silvertip Badger in Cocobolo
Razor: Bengall 6/8
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel
Balm: Nivea Replenishing
Result: Well I gotta be honest, tonight's shave was crap.
I haven't shaved with this razor for a while, and I remember it wasn't great last time, but I thought I'd given it a touch up since.
obviously not
Should have checked my honing notes before the shave.
Thanks for the great posts and pics fellas.
hope your shaves are better than mine.

Thanked: 146I've never used a Shapton 16k, but I like the edges I get off the Naniwa, and the stone has great feedback. Almost feels like the blade 'sticks' to the stone a bit when things are right. I will take the mystery blade back to the 4k and refine the edge a bit more and then back up through to the 12k. I believe the bevel is set correctly, but I didn't spend enough time polishing out the edge on the rest of the hones and thus the harshness. But thanks for the comments Carl.

Hot shower, warm oil
Dirty bird scuttle
Truefitt and Hill Almond shave cream
Badger brush
Maxtom 7/8, 1/4 hollow.
Naniwa 5,8,12, Crox, strop
Razorock aluminum
Thayers Lavender AS
Vaseline for men
Been a bit busy at work, forgot to post.
Last nights shave was a single pass with the Maxtom. Did not think I needed another and I was right. Nice, close shave with the first pass. After a little refresh this razor performed really well.
Enjoy the day.

THURSDAY
Hot shower prep
Razor: EverReady Shovel head
Blade: Gem coated SE
Soap: Old Proraso
Mug: Soup cup
Brush: generic badger
Aftershock: none
Splash: none
no photo
The day? 2ºC. Yetch, snow expected later. The shave? A good super close shave in two. Do not use a shovel head to scrape! Use it like a straight and keep the blade angle low to the skin!
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Prep: Hot Shower
Razor: Robert Williams SRP
Strop: SRD Prem I
Brush: AOS Fine Badger
Cream: Spencer & Devon Sagebrush
A/S: Alum Block, Thayers Rose, Pinaud Clubman
Result: I finally finished the Pinaud Clubman. It's amazing how little you use for a splash, so the last ounce or so lasted a few shaves. The razor gets smoother with each shave, and my face feels like a champ. Back to work; enjoy your Thursday.
