Curse you Lotse and Ratbag. I'm gonna hang my camera up, if you keep posting such photos.

10/6/2013 - "The last of the Feather blades", currently on show in my bathroom.

Pre : Nivea face wash, Proraso pre-post cream
    Soap : Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush : Progress Vulfix 404
Razor : 1920's Gillette "old type"
    Blade : Feather
Post : Nivea post shave balm

    Finish : BBS

    Comments :
I think the Palmolive and TOBS creams, and the Tabac soap, have spoiled me in terms of lathering up. Certainly the TOBS is a dream to lather up, seeing as how I'm in a hard water area... and that the powers-that-be seem to enjoy mixing water qualities. I'm beginning to see what people mean, when they say they have trouble with MWF lathering up. I guess the genie of shaving sometimes kicks the goblins arse out of my bathroom, which could account for having some days with MWF behaving like a dream. Hmm.

More TOBS is needed, methinks, as well as some more Feather blades.

    Hehe.

Edit: To be honest, I think my remark was missing a smiley.

A Canon 50D and a Tamron 18-125 lens, with a Sigma 105 macro amongst my gear. The gear's not in question, it's the EE lighting in my bathroom that's the problem. I end up with a mix of bounced flash and those damned EE bulbs. Being partially colourblind, I can't be sure of true colour reproduction when I'm working with the RAW file, hence my photos are B+W conversions.

    Keep up the excellent photos.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the still life composition you just posted above, Dave.

One of the biggest problems with not having a full frame sensor and/or expensive large F-stop lenses is, creating images that have shallow depth of field.
An easy way to create it is to set your camera to manual, use a high ISO ( 800 + ) and remove your lens from the camera.
Make sure your camera is off before you remove it. Turn your camera on without the lens. Then physically hold the lens in front of the camera and take a few test shots to test the exposure.
You'll find the depth of field is extremely shallow. Some people love everything sharp in an image, i prefer to make sharp what i want the viewer to see ( IE : the makers name on the tang or some small detail )
I don't expect everyone to like it, but each to his/her own
The lens will by default set to wide open all you need to do is adjust the ISO and shutter speeds to try for a decent exposure.

This method is called FREE LENSING

You could be like me and not have a camera at all. All my pictures are taken with a cheap 5-year old 3G Samsung Cellphone camera.

Some of the photos on here are worthy of being put in a magazine.
