Thanked: 3227If you want to try a slant DE you could go the Merkur route. I have the Merkur 37c and it is a great shaver and not too terribly expensive compared to the Ikon and it's competitors. The Fendrihan model you are looking at is not a slant.

Gentlemen,
The one slant that I have come to really like is the Above the Tie S1. I find it a remarkably efficient and smooth shaver. Another is the iKon Shavecraft 102 slant, milder than the ATT, but still quite efficient and smooth.

I was thinking of just getting a 101 or even a vintage gilette and just buying the slant head from ikon. That way I'd have open, closed and slant. A good idea?

At first glance it may sound like a good idea. Keep in mind though that not all Open Comb DEs are the same and that goes for Solid Bar DE and Slant DEs too. Some are mild and some are aggressive in each type of DE. I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a DE.

Bob I'm not experienced enough to know what I want that's why I wanted to try all these.

Thanked: 3227I think Andrew just generously solved much of your problem for you.
I would start by trying the Fat Boy at a low number setting like 3 and then slowly move up the scale towards the 9 setting. A Fat Boy at 3 is a mild shaving razor and gets progressively more aggressive as you go up the scale. I think if you can comfortably shave with it set at 9 then most razors stated/considered to be very aggressive should not be a problem for you.
The original point I was trying to make was that the aggressiveness of a DE is not necessarily indicated by whether it is an OC,SB or Slant. You can have mild or aggressive razors in all 3 categories. Hope that makes some sense.

OK thanks Andrew I tried the slim and found it wasn't anything to write home about. I will pm you.
Bob I understand a little better now. I just thought from reading that OC were aggressive and CC was mild. Now I know better.
