Thanks, it's in August. But, my wife puts me on a buying freeze a couple of months before my b-day and Christmas. Then I send her my ideas for gifts via email. Sh started doing this about ten years ago whe I bought duplicates of everything she bought me during the week of my birthday.
It's a dog eat dog world and I have on milk bone underwear.

I just don't know about you Obie.
Do you think you will ever really find that perfect razor for you?
I mean, at some point don't you have to throw in the towel and say "this is it for me" I'm truly satisfied with brand X razor and the heck with the newer ones?No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 98Man, you guy's are something else, I about had an Infarction when I saw 185$ for a razor blade holder.
To each their own, I'll buy AMMO instead and top off my food reserves.

Spendur, my friend,
I don't think the "perfect" razor exists, straight or safety. Instead, I prefer "sweet," or "sweetest" when referring to a group of razors close to my heart. Occasionally I use the term "celestial" when referring to the "sweetest" of the "sweet."
My Wolfman DE razor is "celestial" in every way. Among my straights, the 3/4 hollow Le Grelot, the oldest in my modest collection, wears the "celestial" hat. The ATT SE1, I must admit, is pretty "sweet."

Obie, a word to the wise if I may .......... by all means let the mongoose go ............ but wait 6 months before you do. Put it in a drawer and forget you have it. If you still feel the same way come December put it up for sale when people are looking for Christmas presents. IMHO ........
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That is good advice, Jimmy. It is always wise to use the razor for a while before making a final decision on it. The reason I let mine go was because of the difference between it and my new ATT SE1.
The Mongoose was an efficient shaver, but a wee bit harsh for me, especially with my ultra sensitive skin. The ATT SE1, on the other hand, was as efficient as the Mongoose, but a lot smoother shaver. I didn't need to single edge razors, so o the ATT stayed.

The ATT SE1 is a step beyond the Mongoose on my face. Closer shave that lasted several hours longer with Feather Pro blades. May be the weight or shape or angle of the head but I can definitely tell a difference. I thought that I might prefer the SE2 open comb base plate but now I'm in no hurry to go out and buy one.
I shave 99.5% of the time with a straight but I'm really liking the SE1.

Never tried a single edge are they significantly better than DEs?

Not better, just different. The ATT SE-1 and the Mongoose use Feather Pro blades, among others of the same configuration, and these are wicked sharp but smooth. Same blades as used in the Feather Artist Club straight. So the head is longer than a DE head, and the blades are more rigid. I prefer DE, but I like the SE-1 and the Mongoose very much.
