Default Thoughts on Above the Tie SE1

    Gentlemen,

The SE1 (single edge) is the newest offering from Above the Tie. I find the razor superb in every way. Fit and finish are impeccable. The balance with my Jurgen Hempel titanium handle — I prefer it to the original bamboo handle — is ideal. The shave is efficient and silky smooth.

I have used a variety of single edge safety razors through the years. None can match the ATT SE1 in efficiency and comfort for me. After shaving with the SE1 for a week, I decided to part with my Mongoose, which I really liked. The ATT SE1 is an exceptionally fine shaver. I use Feather Professional blades, which last about five shaves for me in this razor.

    Good stuff.

I really like the finish on it, looks like a fine razor. Thanks for the review.

    Firefighter,
Thanks for the kind words. Unlike the angular edge on the Mongoose, the ATT SE1 has a rounded edge. It's an interesting design. A sweet shaver, indeed.

    TC,
Both Mongoose and ATT SE1 shave equally well. I, however, find the ATT SE1 smoother and more comfortable. The ATT also has less blade feel on the face than does the Mongoose. What's more, I find the Mongoose a wee bit more aggressive than the ATT SE1 — and I prefer less aggressive.

Mine had an issue with the top cap not fitting well and not making good contact with the blade on one side. Stan took it back and now I am waiting for the replacement. When everything gets sorted out I'll shave with it for the first time.

I can say it is lighter than the SS Mongoose and I like that.

Mine has shaved beautifully from the start. I couldn't get over how efficient, smooth and comfortable the ATT SE1 was even in its premiere shave.

Yes, it is a wee bit lighter than the Mongoose. I especially like the weight and the balance of the razor in my Jurgen Hempel titanium handle. Good stuff.

    Scar,
I know I am a sinner by creating temptation, but what the hell, Adam bit the apple, so we might as well pluck the ATT SE1. I think you'll like it, my friend.
