Gentlemen,
I heard about the Janus razor some months ago on another forum and then forgot about it. Thanks for refreshing my memory, Bob.
The Janus sounds intriguing. A good friend has a near mint Toggle and it is lovely. The question is this: will the Janus uphold the majesty of the Toggle?
Oh, and I hope the tabs are covered — I echo Geezer. The exposed tabs are the one thing I really don't like about most DE razors, including the great Gillettes.
As for the climbing prices, Nelson is correct. I know stainless steel and titanium razors are costly to produce, but at the rate the selling prices clime, I am running low on Lamborghinis to sell. OY!

Thanked: 25I have 70s model Gillette Double Edge Adjustable that I Shave With on occasion and it does a great job but nothing compares with a straight.

Thanked: 3225Yupper, I have a couple of DEs and SEs that will give my straight razors a run for the money. Even the old Gillette Fat Boy set @9 with a sharp blade like a Feather can come close.

Thanked: 220Apparently the 1960's Toggle Gillette's are very rare, sought after, and expensive. I see the ease of cleaning/blade changing aspect of them, but I wonder if the toggle mechanism loosens over time?

Thanked: 3225With Gillette toggles there are a few variations with some rarer than others making getting ahold of a vintage one expensive to you gotta be kidding me. All I can say is that the toggle mechanism on my vintage one does not appear to have loosened up over time. That is not to say that all vintage ones are like that.
The other eye opener in the Fat Boy lineup is the Bottom Dial version made only in one quarter of one year.
All three versions of the Fat Boy seem to shave roughly the same to me. By that I mean very well when set @9.

Thanked: 220I've heard about that bottom dial Fat Boy, and if I'm not mistaken I also recall the rarest being the 5 dial with a red dot?

Thanked: 3225Got me there. There seem to be so many little things that are different and seem to really drive prices up for collectors. Luckily I am not a collector so just happened on a toggle and a bottom dial by chance. Good enough for me and I doubt I'll actively search for more unless one falls into my lap for cheap.
This seems to be a good site for Gillette info NDC1-5BottomDialBlack if you have not already seen it.
