Thanked: 1Great Shave with DE
I'm just starting with my new straight edge - and am going slow. Meanwhile, I invested in two new DE's - both Merkur - and I'm shocked at how much better the shave is than with the Mach 3 - which I still use to shave just under my nose on the upper lip. The sled fits better. All in all - the heavy duty Merkur is my favorite. Amazing beautiful shave. As I get more coordinated with the straights - I'll probably mix and match - reserving the straight for days off when I can savor the event.

Thanked: 2Majority of the time i shave with my fat handle gold tech. I enjoy the heavier weight, plus it's more comfortable than trying to work a tiny ball end tech. I'm always in hurry so 2passes and i'm good. If i have time 3passes with the tech and i have bbs.

I use my Merkur VISION about two times a week. The other days are devoted to straights.

I use my DE's for travel when staying multiple nights in a hotel, if they get stolen it wouldn't bother me plus I am usually often intoxicated then, also unfortunately I have had a few too many health issues that made shaving with a straight at least for a few days every now and then not a healthy or safe decision too but thankfully those issues are getting farther and farther in between and its been straights only for a while and I am hoping it stays that way at least until I travel again.

Well,
I'm still very much a beginner to straight razor shaving, so I still use my DE's quite a bit (especially in the moustache area -- it's still a real challenge with a straight) . While I'm enjoying the process of learning how to use and maintain straight razors, I am still impressed by the shaving quality of my 1940s Gillette Super Speed and my Merkur Slant. I really hope I'm able to improve my straight shaving technique to a point that provides shaves as close as my DE's, and with the minimal bloodletting I've grown to enjoy as a DE user.

Thanked: 235In the beginning I went straight from the M3 to a straight. But I recently bought a (three actually, can you ever only buy just one?) DE with the intention of using it for travel. I have been practicing shaving with a DE for the two weeks before I leave. When I get back my intention is to go back to the straights. I don't seem to save a noticeable amount of time with the DE, it's just a different shaving experience. I think I will include a DE in my weekly rotation.

Thanked: 234DEs scare the crap out of me! I might invest in one for those rare occasions where I need to shave early in the morning or travelling where the straight wouldn't be practical.
