Thanked: 1Rolls
Feebo,
I have used straights and a Rolls for many years. From what you have said I think the Rolls would be just the ticket for you. They are very high quality and have a substantial "hand" feel and provide excellent shaves. As you say that you enjoy the satisfaction of maintaining your razors the Rolls is for you. The cross-section of the Rolls blade is the same as a straight and the Sheffield steel holds a great edge. You can still find good Rolls razors if you keep your eyes peeled. The only caution is to be sure that you don't get one with a broken hone as it will damage your blade.

Hi there,
Heh, got yourself a Rolls eh? That should be an interesting journey and I look forward to your posts.
My knowledge of a Rolls razor is minimal, but I can mention a couple things to check when buying one of those.
You need to make sure the sharpening stone is crack free, and also that the blade has zero chips. Sometimes it's difficult to see those on the blade unless you look closely. Make sure you are clear with the seller about exactly what you expect.
I'd guess there's other things to watch for, but nothing else comes to mind. Maybe other members would post something.

I think unless someone on our forum had a Rolls for sale, I`d be very reluctant to buy off the internet at all. Tiny imperfections can obviously cause major problems or even render the thing useless. I`ve been "sold" rubbish in that respect a few times/ One seller even suggested he thought I "Only wanted it to look at" lol Needless to say a refund, allbeit involuntary refund, was had. So unless you guys can steer me toward a trusted seller with a suitable Rolls, I think I`m going to have to go for the Jagger "set" on the previous page. That way, it`s new and I know the condition is going to be good. I`ve already been advised by you guys that Jagger is a trusted make so I`m feeling pretty6 safe on that one. Unless anyone has further comment on that particular set?

I have an EJ Chatsworth which has the same head and it's a great shaver. You might also look at the feather stainless razor. It shaves on par with the EJ DE's.
