Thread: What do you guys do with your DE blades between shaves?

I personally find it very silly when people try to strop their DE blades and do other things to try to get one or two more shaves out of them...they're such cheap blades and meant to be disposable. I was also under the impression that doing any kind of stropping or wiping will remove the microscopic layer of coating that are on modern DE blades. If you look on the black of a pack of feather blades, it actually says not to wipe the blades after use, only rinse and shave dry.

This is what I do, I take the blade out, rinse and shake it and let it sit on a piece of toilet paper while I rinse and dry my Edwin Jagger 87. I'll then put the blade back in the little paper and sit it somewhere safe where no one will mess with it.
I don't really care to leave the blade in my razor as, to me, it sounds like poor care for the razor. I'd prefer my DE to look as nice as it did the day it first came out of the box.

I place them in the drawer next to my straight razors and thank God I don't have to use them.

In seriousness, I learned on a DE when dirt was new. Probably the biggest favor I did myself was to dry the blade - left inside the razor, and leave it out to finish air drying (outside the humidity of the bathroom). A wet edge doesn't last long - straight or DE. If it has *any* soap film, including microscopic - it goes down fast.

Take razor apart - I mostly use a 3 piece - put blade aside; dry parts; pat dry the blade and reassemble; stick away in the drawer. For a no-take-apart razor like a fat boy I pat dry the blade and set aside for an hour or two until the razor is dry and then reunite balde and razor and put away in a dry area. This ensures virtually no corrosion, even in the high humidity environment of sub-tropical coastal Australia.

I just rinse with hot water, shake it off but keep it in in the shaving head, certainly not going to dry it or touch it with anything and risk ruining the edge. After all, they only last 4-5 shaves max (for my feathers) and are cheap and meant to be replaced. But I leave it to air dry in the open, never had an oxidation problem and where I am it's humid as hell right now.

I don't understand why one would keep their blade in their razor when not in use. I wouldn't want that goo that's on the blades to sit on my razor for too long, nor would I want any missed water droplets corroding my razor. Maybe I'm just nit-picky

You can have the bullets in the cylinder of your revolver long time "resting" and waiting for action.

I only a DE or Feather folding RG occasionally, but I tend to just rinse them in hot tap water afterwards and leave in the razor till my next use. That can be a few days later or a week or so. I haven't had any problems so far.

I leave my blades in. I'm a care less sort of fellow with them. They're cheap enough to not worry. I do change them regularly, about once every three weeks. I don't use a DE everyday though.
