Most Japanese square points have a little section at the tip just taken off at an angle and all Filarmonica square points have what I class as very safe points very nicely rounded off slightly, the first one in the lineup is the only true spike point I own at this present time if you look you can see even though they are all square points there is a noticeable difference to the very toe and finish.

    Thanks Jamie,

I've honed several razors that had what I considered 'Factory Muted Points'. None of them were Japanese or Filarmonica! Might have been something that was a popular option back in the day. Kind of a 'hybrid' part square point and part round point

This Herder has a similar modified square/spike point.

Learning to shave with a spike is just like learning to shave with any other sharp object.

They are great for trimming a beard, sideburns (ATG), mouth corners and nose hairs.

Here’s a nice one I cleaned up recently, a nice shaver.

I hope to God those nose hairs are on the outside not inside!

    Just to keep this clear...

As far as I know a square point is slightly rounded at the corner and a spike point is not. The spike point has a corner that forms an abrupt ninety (approximately) degree angle.

My point is that the spike point and square point are not different names for the same thing, even though many use the terms interchangeably.
