Default Things I've Learned/One Square of Toilet Paper

I'm not even multi-year SR shaver yet, but have learned a lot of interesting things going down this particular path. Here are a few offa toppa my head presently as we speak:

One razor is all you need, ever. Hell three guys could share/shave with the same one razor for entire lifetimes. (one razor my asp)

It had better be a good one (the one shared above). They are not all created equal, even of same name/model/country/region/era. There will be variations of mfg that affect sharpability/smoothness. (that's why (one reason) we get the second, third, ...34th, etc.)

You want the mid-grade or above badger for your brush.

Deftness and articulation of your hand can improve exponentially when given this challenge.

Sharper is betterer. "Oversharp" is a misnomer.

Sharpness is limited, Smoothness is subjective. A ho-hum shave today might have been a "holy cow that's great" shave a few months ago. (Okay, yeah, there are no ho-hum shaves since leaving plastic. It's either great or not quite as great, but always better.)

You get used to it. Comfortable with the act. Others don't. (and that's O. K.)

Focus is everything, leave the room when you lose it. Quit shaving at least. (You have to nick yourself about 2x to _learn_ what your "focus level" must be).

Hyper focus is intermittently normal for ADHD, so yeah-I got that going _for_ me. (Getting to experience _more_ focused time is part of my draw to SRS).

Brushes and Strops and Hones and Razors oh oh oh MY!!!
(Go watch "Hoarders" and quit bidding against me )

Bidding is addictive behavior. (do not claim you were not warned.)

A 6-week beard will TEST your shaving skills AND will clearly illustrate all "grain flows" of your facial hairs. I am fresh enough to the sport that after only trimming for nearly 2 months, I think (hell i'm not sure) I use some different strokes/approaches now. Like learning over, but having the touch.

Shaving and honing have both enhanced my tactile awareness and crossed over into other areas of endeavor. (Variation in pressure applies to nearly everything.)

and One Square of Toilet Paper, albeit not quite enough for any other purpose ever, is dang perfect for wiping off a razor.

Nice sum-up, the only thing I disagree with is the badger brush. Boar is my weapon of choice, but each to their own.

Fine by me. Don't know that I've tried boar. The Pure Badger I recently mounted is a bit weak in spine (could be a function of 19mm size) but also a bit prickly, like a wool shirt worn with nothing under. It makes a fine lather once I get it loaded.

And you pick this particular reference from a past experience?

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
