What kind of Latherer are You?

So,

Obie the Magnificent was over to the house last week and we had a great time. We BBQ'd, honed a few razors on a bunch of stones, natural and synthetic and we were test shaving the razors when I noticed something. Watching Obie spread the lather on his face was simply a work of art. It was obvious that this is a part of wetshaving that he really enjoys. He whisked and swirled and painted and swirled and had a bunch of really great moves going as he performed actually with the brush. I was really caught up in watching him as I really never noticed anyone doing this before. I mean if his face were a canvas, he was creating a Mona Lisa for sure.

This really got me wondering about how different people put the lather on their face. I am a Plasterer. I whisk away until I have the thickest suds possible and then usually just go back and forth as though I was tuck pointing some brick work. Pretty basic and I don't spend much time getting there.

What kind of Latherer are you? Are you a Painter, a Plasterer, an Artist, a Whisker, a Swirler or what and how long does it take you before you put razor to face? Please post videos of you lathering if you want to.

After years of being an oil painter lathering my face was a no brain-er. Without thought I was lathering as if I was painting a portrait, the strokes, in a way, similar to the ones I would use on canvas. I really need to have HarryWally look into making me an exceedingly small shaving brush so I can have some subtle satisfaction as I "paint" my self portrait each morning.

I pretty much swirl on a good layer and then paint the lather ear to ear.

I do what rolodave does. Swirl and spread around with brush strokes.

Depending on the type of soap, enough swirls to load the brush, then dig the brush in hard on the face and swirl away....

I learned to lather and shave by watching Lynns's videos and haven't varied much since. Still haven't got the hang of lathering with my left hand, though.

A pi$$ poor one ? I'm the guy who voted 'other'. I've gone from face, to bowl, and back to face the past few months. I've never been completely satisfied with my lathering. My fault, not the water or the pucks. No problems with creams though. Maybe that is why I don't have any. I'm too cheap to buy 'em when I have so many pucks to use up.

Lynn, does he lather in a bowl or on his face? I tend to face lather simply because I don't have a bowl or cup to use for building a lather. Because of that, I tend to dab and brush on my face when building a lather. So, Picasso I ain't.

I swirl it on thick, then I paint ATG to get the whiskers to stand up more. I face lather with soaps in containers, and use a scuttle with tubes.

I prep my lather in a bowl and then proceed to paint it on my face which in turn lathers the mirror, the sink, the floor and anything else that is in lather splashing range
