Thanked: 1Just got my razor back from SRD and it shaves 10 times better than before. No more blood spewing from my face and only some minor irritation afterwards, I can still feel some stubble left over if I rub against the grain but a lot less than before. I think part of the problem is in the soap I am using,Dr Harris almond soap just doesn't seem to offer any lubrication and dries very quickly. I'm going to get some Castle Forbes Lavender cream and see if that helps.

The soap is fine, you just need to learn to get your water ratio and just do a section at a time, cause my guess is your just taking too long to get to the rest of your face before it drys, Dr Harris is a good soap. Castle Forbes will do the same if you don't get it right.

It's just absolutely amazing the difference a Pro honed edge can make!
I agree with tc you need to work with the soap a bit. You may find the other works better for you but that could just be because you work it in a way that it likes to be worked. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 3228Now that you have a shave ready razor the rest is learning how to get a good shave, lathering and stropping technique going. Getting a good shave is not largely due to equipment or how much it costs but mostly getting those techniques right. You should be able to get a great shave using a lowly Boar brush and Arko soap when you have a shave ready razor.
TC is right, DR Harris is a good soap. Take the time and practice making a good lather without shaving till you gat it right. I found this video very helpful.

Thanked: 1Thanks guys. I too thought it was incorrect water ratio and its funny you posted that video because that's the exact same video I watched when first learning how to lather my soap 6 months ago and I watched it again about 5 times today. However I just shaved and it did not improve from yesterday even with the correct water ratio. I've ruled out the razor because it was just sharpened and now I'm just going to rule out the soap by buying the Castle Forbes cream which has great reviews, the reviews I found on Dr Harris soap are just mediocre. Also the cream should be easier to make a nice lather.

Thanked: 250You might try like I do with mediocre soap and that is to load your brush good, then add just a dab of Creamo to it and face lather.

Thanked: 1Benz I really like your idea of adding Creamo to my soap. While getting some oil at Walmart to do an oil change on my car I got the idea of using some oil, don't worry I didn't use motor oil on my face lol, so I headed down to Walmart's crappy shaving section to see what they had and found some cheap ShaveSecret essential oi. So while I'm waiting for my real soap to arrive I am going to add some of this essential oil to my soap next time I shave. I put a few drops on my fingers and it feels really slick so I have a good feeling about this.

Thanked: 1WOW my face is smooth! Adding a few drops of the ShaveSecret essential oil to my brush after I loaded it with soap made the lather more silky and the razor just glides across my face with no irritation. I'm really disappointed in the DR Harris almond soap, it is over priced junk. Guess I won't be waxing my face after all sorry guys.

Thanked: 3228Glad you found something that worked for you.
I can see someone being disappointed in the performance of a soap/cream. Depending on the depth of experience a person has, calling a product "over priced junk" might be a bit of a stretch. How long have you been using a brush and soap/cream to make a lather with and how many different soaps/creams have you used?

Thanked: 1I have 6 months experience with a brush and this is the only soap I have ever used other than aerosol foam with a disposable razor. The product is junk because it only worked when the essential oil was added to it. I doubt my lathering skill or use of a razor has changed much between 2 shaves so the oil was the only variable that changed between the 1st shave being no oil and the 2nd shave being a few drops of oil. Maybe DR Harris soap is good for you but for me it is JUNK without the addition of extra products. Wouldn't want anyone else to make the same mistake I did and purchase this soap.
