    True.

To summarize my take on this razor; despite what some members wrote, I cannot find anything that would convince me that this razor is a fake.

I own several Henckels Friodur razors where the embossed name or model numbers are uneven and have learnt to accept this as something that can happen when an item is largely hand-finished, but also expected to be sold at a reasonably low price.
If you had paid €400 that would be a different story.

However - and as DOVO has proven many times - razors that leave Solingen and are supposedly shave ready will usually benefit from a proper honing.

In fact, unless the razor comes from a source that I know makes the razor truly "shave ready", I assume that I shall have to do it myself.

So my guess is that there is little wrong with this razor, except that "cutting capacity" needs to be taken with a grain of salt and the razor needs to be given a proper honing.

Beyond that, there is still proper beard preparation, patience and technique that could keep a user from a comfortable, close shave.
All these come with experience, and straight shaving requires upwards to 100 shaves until one has figured it out and even then the learning never stops...

Wish I could help, but I guess I am too far away.

Have you tried one of the German sites?
    Try googling "Nassrasur".

    Good look.

    P.S.
And if nothing else works; if you could have the razor at my hotel address in Munich by the 7th, I would take the razor home with me, hone it for you and mail back to you from Vienna, Austria on the 22nd, when I'm again back in Europe.

Your razor was most probably not honed shave ready. I have recently honed couple Dovos that were sold as “Shave Ready” with very shiny bevels and micro chipped edges.

When the razors were put on the stones, the bevel angle was off, and had not been honed with the spine on a stone.

So I suspect yours was hone spine off the stone, stropped on paste and called good. I don’t see any spine wear and also do not see a bevel at the heel, though it might be the photos.

Notice the web site does not claim to Hone the razor.

“Following traditional manufacturing process, Hans Kniebes artisans make sure that each cut throat razor is sharpened to perfection and performs to the highest shaving standards.”

Your razor may be of decent quality steel, just not the best quality finish and in need of a true shave ready honing.

What I noticed is the razor and advertising says SolinGen and it probably was not truly shave ready, get the razor shave ready and you will be fine and enjoy a Great shave I am Sure.

So a update for all. I was buy the amazing 'the different scent' in Berlin today with my new razor and it turns out u were right about the quality! ! I did not want to believe it as it cost a fair bit but it's true.so the likelihood of it being actually made outside of Germany is high. So I'm going to send it back for a full refund.

I'm sorry that your first razor was not ideal - we suspected as much from early on. I don't know anything about the different scent, but I hope for your sake they are reputable honemeisters. If not, then a Ralph Aust is a fine razor, and won't be any trouble for a honemeister to get tip top for you
